Apply Now Position summary:
Reporting to the Supervisor By-law Services, the Student Municipal Law Enforcement Officer position will provide assistance in the administration and enforcement of municipal regulatory by-laws such as, but not limited to, the parking by-law, animal control by-law, sign and advertising by-law and licensing by-law within the Town of The Blue Mountains. The position will be expected to respond to enquiries and complaints and provide superior customer service as required. Main duties and responsibilities are in the areas of Beach Patrol, Parking and By-Law Enforcement.
Attend Town beaches and parks to ensure patrons are in compliance with capacity, physical distancing, and group-gathering restrictions.
Monitor and secure closed or at-capacity parks and beaches.
Work with Municipal Law Enforcement Officers in the laying of charges or fines under the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act.
Manage use, occupancy and capacity at Town Parks and Beaches by deploying and operating traffic and pedestrian control measures.
Track and regulate use of parks and beaches, admit and refuse patrons, track and control numbers of patrons using park and beach facilities.
Provide by-law enforcement throughout town by conducting routine vehicle, bicycle and foot patrols. Monitor for non-compliance of town by-laws which includes signage, hawkers and peddlers, transient traders, idling, bike and skateboards, display of merchandise, and licenses (i.e.: patio), etc., and offer alternate resolutions to formal charges, when applicable. What you will need:
Enrolled in a post-secondary program in Police Foundations, Law & Security, Criminology, Law Enforcement or a related field.
Must be capable of performing the physical requirements of the position.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows and Office applications; knowledge of parking ticket software application would be an asset.
Excellent interpersonal, communication, public relations and conflict resolution skills.
Ability to exercise tact and diplomacy by working independently and as part of an enforcement team.
General understanding and appreciation of downtown and local attractions.
Valid Class \xe2\x80\x9cG\xe2\x80\x9d driver\xe2\x80\x99s license in good standing.
Possess a Criminal Record Check with results satisfactory to the Town.
