Whistler Multicultural Society (WMS) works to develop and deliver dialogue and inclusion initiatives to create truly resilient and thriving communities. Our programs build intercultural interaction, connections and capacity, develop awareness and understanding of our local diversity, and seek to grow equity, inclusion and to build the voice and profile of newcomers, immigrants and all equity-deserving members of our local communities regardless of status, race, culture, or other ways of being.

MULTICULTURAL OUTREACH WORKER - SQUAMISH



The Multicultural Outreach Worker (MOW), Squamish, focuses on delivering programs and activities to build the collective and individual capacity of culturally and racially diverse individuals. The MOW focus is to support social connectedness and physical and mental wellbeing in culturally and racially diverse individuals and groups. The MOW aims to empower culturally and racially diverse individuals and groups to participate and thrive and actively advocates for and works to build greater equity, diversity, and inclusion.

Specific responsibilities include

:

Connect with newcomers and immigrants in the community via a range of channels including in-person and online to develop social connections and a sense of belonging and community Deliver activities, programs and initiatives to support immigrant and newcomer social connections, physical and mental wellbeing Develop and facilitate activities and initiatives to bring different local cultures together in order to build intercultural awareness, understanding and communication Develop volunteer opportunities for the cultural ambassador program Deliver activities and programs to raise the profile and voices of new and diverse Canadians in our communities; especially via storytelling and cultural ambassadors Contribute to program planning through needs assessment to ensure programing supports participants' needs/wishes Develop relationships, networking, and partnerships with other service providers, agencies, communities, organizations Perform other related duties as required Maintain client records, program statistics, and reports and provide regular updates to the Executive Director / the Program Manager / the funder, as required. Participate in staff meetings, and professional development/training.

Working conditions

:

Based in Squamish for program delivery and preparation Presence in main office in Whistler twice a month Ability to be available for meetings, events, and activities outside of standard working hours is required; may occasionally include weekends and evenings

Qualifications/experience sought:

Qualifications/experience valued include

:

Fluency in English (spoken and written) and preferably at least one other language Effective interpersonal and intercultural communication, and organizational skills Flexibility and ability to be a self-starter and take initiative; detail-oriented with ability to apply critical thinking and problem solving Knowledge of the Squamish community, local immigrant cultural and ethnic groups, and the services/resources available Networking and relationship building skills, including ability to work effectively in a diverse team environment Good computer skills; Outlook, Excel, Word Ability to maintain records, statistics, all required documentation and to prepare reports on activities as required

Hours of work

: 12-14 hours per week

Pay range

: $26.07 to $30.17 per hour plus vacation and paid statutory holidays, depending on qualifications and experience. Wellness benefit available.
