The University of Prince Edward Island invites applications for a permanent part-time Research Technician (0.5 FTE) in the Department of Biomedical Sciences. RESPONSIBILITIES:

Support faculty research by performing a range of biochemical, molecular, and cellular assays and will assist in the execution of experiments investigating toxicological, physiological, and biochemical endpoint Day-to-day management of the research laboratory, procurement of supplies, maintenance of equipment, and ensuring compliance with laboratory safety protocols Maintain detailed and accurate experimental records, analyze data, and assist in the preparation of research reports Provide guidance and technical assistance to students and other personnel as needed

QUALIFICATIONS:

Candidates must hold a B.Sc. in a relevant discipline such as biology, biochemistry, or toxicology, and have a minimum of three years of experience in an analytical or research laboratory Demonstrate interest or background in toxicological, biochemical, or physiological research is essential Experience with fluorescence- and spectrophotometry-based assays, cell culture techniques, molecular biology methods, and be familiar with mitochondrial respirometry and atomic absorption spectrophotometry Ability and willingness to work with live fish, or to learn to do so, is required Strong oral and written communication skills, along with proficiency in data handling, analysis, and interpretation, are required Demonstrate sound laboratory management practices and familiarity with quality assurance and quality control procedures * Have a high degree of independence, initiative, and the ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented research environment are essential
