Job Description

The Department of Biology of the University of Prince Edward Island is seeking a Laboratory Coordinator to manage and instruct laboratory periods in field-related courses, that may include but are not limited to Environmental Biology (Bio 1010) and Ecology (Bio 2220) as well as tutorial-based courses that may include but are not limited to Genetics (Bio 2230/2240) and Research Methods and Communications (Bio 3310).
RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Organizing travel to field sites for laboratory activities
  • Coordinating and instructing laboratory periods and tutorials. The coordinator is also responsible for all aspects of laboratory/tutorial assessments
  • Interviewing, hiring, and supervising staff for multiple laboratory/tutorial sections
  • Designing original educational materials to meet the instructional needs of the course(s)
  • Assisting with other related duties as assigned by the course instructors or Chair of the Department
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor of Science in Biology, with a strong background in ecology, genetics, and research methods and one year of related work experience
  • Strong computer skills for data analysis and operation of equipment
  • Master of Science would be a definite asset
  • Excellent scientific communication skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Minimum one year experience instructing biology laboratory/tutorial periods
