Mold Technician (Mold Maker)
for its Molds department in Thorsby, AB. The Molds Technician (Mold Maker) is responsible for aiding the Molds team in the modification, maintenance and repair of various spa molds for high-performance hot tubs. This is an entry level position providing ample learning opportunity for a curious and ambitious candidate that enjoys learning new skills in a hands-on work environment. The right candidate will gain experience in molds fabrication and develop a keen understanding of the spa/hot tub manufacturing process. This role is crucial in ensuring the accuracy, quality, and longevity of production molds used in the creation of hot tubs that are engineered for the harshest climates.
Work/life balance is part of BFM's philosophy - this position functions Monday thru Friday, typically 6:00AM to 2:30PM (hours may be subject to minor fluctuation, based on operational requirements).

Duties:
Readily learn and understand the Company's product line(s) and production schedule(s)
Modify, maintain and repair various spa molds ensuring molds are completed in a timely manner and ready for use in production, in line with operational targets/deadlines
Assist the production team and supervisory teams in troubleshooting and resolving any mold related issues
Assist in conducting regular inspections and preventive maintenance on all molds to ensure optimal performance and minimize downtime
Learn to interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and CAD designs to understand mold-making, modification and repair processes
Collaborate with the Research & Development, Operations, and Production teams to develop and improve molds for new products
Ensure that all molds meet the company's specifications and quality standards
Utilize CNC machinery, lathes, grinders, and other machine tools for manufacturing and repairing molds
Maintain a clean and organized work environment
Adhere to all health and safety regulations
Skills/Abilities:
Mechanically inclined; basic fabrication techniques/skills desired but not required
Ability to work in an environment where curing resins are used in composite fabrication such as polyester, vinyl ester and epoxy resins and additives i.e. AL-Tool; ability to work with various bonding agents and other chemical products
Capacity to gain and hone technical competence in the modification, maintenance and repair of molds
Strong attention to detail, commitment to quality workmanship, and ability to detect non-conformance issues
Methodical with solid problem-solving skills; solution-oriented
Capable of learning to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and CAD models
Familiarity with precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges considered an asset but is not required and will be taught to the selected candidate
Basic math skills for measuring and making calculations
Familiarity with operation of hand, power and/or air tools
Organized with the ability to follow direction, take constructive criticism, and effectively manage shifting priorities and time
Ability to work independently and as part of a team to ensure molds are ready for implementation on the assembly line for acrylic shell manufacturing and to support production deadlines
Well-honed interpersonal skills; effective verbal and written communication skills
As this is a hands-on role, excellent manual dexterity is necessary; persistent use of hands, arms, and upper body is necessary
Additionally, this is a physically demanding position that requires sustained standing, bending, twisting, crouching, kneeling, crawling and working in tight/confined spaces for sustained durations Ability to consistently and properly don respiratory equipment and other specialized PPE specific to working in a mold-making environment
Familiarity with health and safety regulations in a manufacturing environment
Must be reliable and punctual with the ability to maintain excellent attendance
Experience/Qualifications:
Some experience/exposure in working with materials such as fiberglass, plastics/acrylics and molds is preferred but not required; on the job training will be provided to the suitable candidate for the role
Experience of any degree in Tool and Die Making, Mold Making, Pattern Making, Machining or other related Manufacturing work, preferably in plastics or spa manufacturing, considered an asset
Education/Training/ Certification:
GED or High School Diploma
Interest and/or apprenticeship in tool and die making program would be to the benefit of the right candidate, should they wish to pursue a profession in any industry demanding tool and die making skills
Work Environment:
Hours of work 6:00AM to 2:30PM
Predominantly indoor; designated building or area within/on manufacturing plant floor
Exposure to dust/particulates, varying noise levels, and possibly chemicals/fumes within plant facilities, carefully managed through the assignment and use of appropriate PPE (personal protective equipment)
Minimal administrative work; general forms/documentation
Compensation:
Starting at $21 per hour; commensurate with skills, experience and qualifications
