Job Summary:




The Mold Designer at our Windsor Mold Tooling Facility will play a critical role in the development and production of automotive parts and components. Their primary responsibility is to design and create molds that are used in the manufacturing process. The role of a Mold Designer is integral to ensuring that the automotive parts are produced efficiently, cost-effectively, and to the highest quality standards.


Job Responsibilities:



Create detailed designs for plastic injection molds used in the production of automotive parts. Use CAD Software to develop 3D models and simulations of molds. Compute mathematical formulas to develop and design detailed specifications for components or machinery using computer-assisted equipment. Select appropriate materials for mould construction based on factors like part specifications, production volume, and material properties. Perform tests to validate the functionality of the moulds, including fit, form and function to ensure they meet design specifications and production requirements. Collaborate with product engineers, manufacturing engineers and other stakeholders to ensure the mould designs meet functional requirements and integrate seamlessly with the manufacturing process. Ensure that moulds are designed with precision and accuracy to maintain high quality in the produced parts. This involves checking tolerances and ensuring that the moulds meet industry standards. Identify and address any issues related to mould performance, such as defects in parts of inefficiencies in the production process and make necessary design adjustments. Prepare and maintain detailed documentation for mould designs, including technical drawings, design specifications, and manufacturing instructions. Continuously seek ways to improve mould designs to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and improve part quality. Ensure that mould designs comply with industry standards and regulations, including safety standards and environmental regulations. Working with the assigned Design Group Leader and Surface Modeler using NX11 software to develop 3D solid model tool designs to manufacture plastic injection molds. For complex projects, designs the cooling, ejection, electrical, hydraulic and mechanical systems For smaller projects, completes the surface modeling Assists in leading the Mold Flow Analysis stage Coordinates the Hot Runner Design procurementapproval Publishes the BOM to the ERP for purchasing of job materials Issues files to the manufacturing group Designs to internal best practice standards for "Design for Manufacturability" and contributes towards development of new "Lean Manufacturing" methods. Coordinates with the design team to complete the design within the job's milestones and within budget. Providing mentorship and support to junior staff.

Job Qualifications:



Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related field is required. - an asset Minimum 3 years' experience with mould designs, materials science and manufacturing processes. Proficiency in CAD software and other design tools commonly used in mould design. NX experience considered an asset Prior experience within the plastics industry or injection molding industry. Excellent problem-solving abilities to address design and production challenges. Great attention to detail to ensure accuracy and quality in mold designs. Strong communication skills for effective collaboration with team members and stakeholders.
