The Minerals, Petroleum and Geosciences Division facilitates sustainable development of the province's mineral and petroleum resources. Mining, Oil and Gas is a team of engineers, geologist(s), auditor(s), technicians, inspectors and administrative staff that ensure compliance with the Oil and Gas Act and the Mines and Minerals Act and associated regulations.
Conditions of Employment:
Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
Must be registered or eligible for registration as a professional engineer with Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba, or the equivalent, transferable professional designation from another Canadian regulator
Must be able to travel to and work in remote locations for extended periods within the province, travelling by various means such as chartered aircraft, boat, ATV, and snowmobile
Must be physically able to undertake the duties of the position, including conducting field work in an underground mine, rough terrain, and on water, during all seasons and under adverse weather conditions
Must be willing and able to work overtime when required and work out-of-town for extended periods of up to ten days with overnight accommodations in bunkhouses, hotels and tents
Must possess and maintain a valid full stage Manitoba Class 5 driver's license
Qualifications:
Essential:
Undergraduate degree in Mining or Geological Engineering or equivalency recognized by Engineers Geoscientists of Manitoba. (Preferred Masters or PHD)
Extensive experience working in engineering role in an underground and open pit mine.
Experience undertaking technical review of mining project feasibility study and NI 43-101 reports, environmental impact of mining and mitigation measures, with a sound understanding of mining cycle, permitting, rehabilitation and closure process.
Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
Strong interpersonal and stakeholder relations skills with the ability to develop, foster and maintain respectful relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
Strong written communication skills including ability to prepare technical and non-technical correspondence and reports.
Strong verbal communication skills.
Experience in leadership, supervision and with human resource practises (i.e. training and development, coaching, labour relations, mentoring, conflict resolution, understanding of collective agreement).
Strong project management, analytical, problem solving and decision making skills.
Desired:
Ability to learn and work with appropriate industry software tools such as 2D and 3D geotechnical software, digital mine design software tools to successfully complete assignments/projects.
Duties:
The Mining Engineer, under the direction of the Chief Mining Engineer is responsible for completing engineering assessments and recommendations on mines and quarry operational and rehabilitation plans, mineral exploration work permit applications, borehole license applications, and mine closure plans under the Mines and Minerals Act. In addition to inspection of underground mines, open pit mines, mining facilities and quarries from time to time, they also provide technical assessment inputs of Environmental Act Licence proposals, as well as evaluation of mines engineering related health and safety matters under the Workplace Safety and Health Act and associated regulations.
