Microbiology Lab Technician (Temporary FT):
Microbiology Lab Technician is part of a team who support Manufacturing Operations through routine and validation testing to release product and maintain compliance to QMS. Testing is performed safely and according to controlled procedures.
This position is a 6-month Temporary Full-time position with a possibility of extension.
Essential Functions:
Strictly follows all laboratory, quality, microbiological and safety procedures.
Routinely gown and de-gown to enter all cleanrooms. Additional PPE (i.e. respirators) are worn as required by procedure.
Monitors controlled environments and critical equipment (microbial and particle counts).
Monitors isolators for product release (microbial and particle counts).
Performs testing to support product release (endotoxin and sterility testing).
Performs testing on materials/samples at different stages of product lifecycle (endotoxin and bioburden).
Performs growth promotion testing on new lots of critical media.
Performs method suitability testing on new or modified materials/product for sterility and endotoxin testing.
Maintains biosafety level 2 microorganisms following biosafety/biosecurity protocols.
Prepares microbiological media.
Monitors temperature of fridges, incubators, ovens and other temperature critical equipment.
Uses aseptic and microbiological techniques during testing.
Performs basic mathematical calculations to determine the final reportable result.
Documents testing, experiments and results according to Good Laboratory Practice.
Utilizes a computer to prepare reports and trend bioburden data.
Monitors lab supplies and submits orders to Purchasing and Manager for approval.
Completes and maintains correct and legible quality forms per procedure.
Cleans and maintains laboratory equipment in collaboration with Maintenance.
Cleans and maintains laboratory work areas per procedure.
Operates steam sterilizer to sterilize media and biohazard waste prior to disposal.
Operates oven (dry heat) to sterilize supplies.
Handles solutions with glutaraldehyde and formaldehyde during testing with respirators.
Participates in test plan and validation activities.
Participates in product release through MES / paper.
Initiate revision of documents and launch in document management system.
Performs miscellaneous tasks as required by Management.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Able to conduct laboratory testing independently after training/qualification following standard laboratory practices, including aseptic technique and biological safety requirements.
Able to work in confined spaces, e.g. entering half-suit isolator, crawling into a narrow chamber
Able to understand the principles of a Quality Management System.
Able to document and present results in an understandable manner.
Able to critically review results, identify non-conformities and report to Management in a timely manner.

Able to use computer programs such as Microsoft Word and Excel.
Able to manage time efficiently and prioritize several tasks.

Able to perform fine (precise finger movements) and gross (holding, gripping, turning) manipulations
Education & Experience:
1+ years of experience in a lab setting (preferably a Microbiology lab) without a post-secondary degree or diploma.
Bachelor's degree or post-secondary diploma (Life Sciences) is preferred.
Experience in GMP manufacturing and Quality is preferred.
