Acadian Seaplants Limited is the world's largest bio-tech based manufacturer of food, animal feed and plant-health products using marine plant resources. We are engaged primarily in the sustainable harvesting of wild seaweeds, for the development of innovative technologies to process these renewable resources into value-added finished products and in the cultivation and processing of unique seaweeds.

Your Role:



We are seeking a Microbiologist for our location in Cornwallis, NS. As the Microbiologist you are committed to excellence. You will report to the Senior Director Global Quality and Food Safety Systems and will work within the framework of the department following company procedures, policies, budgets and programs.

More specifically you will:



Prepare, maintain, and perform quality control testing of all laboratory media used for the growth and propagation of microorganisms. Review and sustain laboratory best practices and tests for microbial examination. Prepare biological specimens as per specific microbe tests. Properly store specimens an dpending tests with specific growth requirements. Prepare, receive and evaluate samples. Evaluate sanitation relate to the packaging system at the facility. Maintain an environmental monitoring program. Consult on the environmental monitoring program of other Acadian Seaplants manufacturing facilities. Prepare and dispense chemical solutions and materials. Operate labratory equipment that includes a autoclave, analytical balance, pH meter, and microscopes. Manage the calibration, maintenance and repairs on scientific equipment and supplies. Support the QA Team to improve or mitigate risks related to the product. Maintain good housekeeping, ensure that the lab and equipment are maintained in a clean and sterilized state. Accurately record data from all studies in benchbooks, pro-formas, databases and spreadsheets and check data quality to look for trends. Review and report results of microbiological analyses in a timely manner including identifying and communicating results that may require further investigation or discussion. Manage all work to meet the Principles of Good Laboratory Practice. Conduct root-cause analysis and investigations. Support the company's core values regarding safety, teamwork and value creation for One Acadian, our customers, our communities, and the planet.

Your qualifications include:



A BSc in microbiology; or community college diploma in a scientific discipline, or an equivalent level of work experience in microbiology testing labs. Proven track record as an effective team member in a manufacturing environment, with excellent interpersonal and communicatoin skills. Ability to think critically and act logically to evaluate situations and make decisions A demonstrated ability to pay attention to details. Competency in MS Excel and Word. Effective presentation skills. Strong organizational and problem-solving skills. Knowledge of GLP, 5-S and ISO-17025 lab management would be an asset. Some knowledge of SAP would be an asset.
