YMCA Camping and Outdoor Education offers outdoor experiences that foster personal growth and build community. YMCA Camp Pine Crest is an overnight camp serving children, families, and organizations through naturally focused programs that embody the mission, vision, and outcomes of the YMCA. Camp Pine Crest is made up of 650 acres of Muskoka wilderness surrounded by 3 interconnected lakes with 8km of shoreline; has over 26km of hiking trails and 7,500 sq. ft. of dock and has 60 buildings.



The Mental Health Specialist is part of the wellness team, responsible for supporting the overall health and well-being of the Pine Crest community, with a particular focus on the mental health of staff, participants, and volunteers. The role provides leadership and guidance to staff, promoting healthy practices such as mental wellness, sun safety, balanced nutrition, adequate sleep, and regular physical activity. The position involves collaborating with camp leadership and Out-Tripping Directors to address health concerns, inform treatment decisions in the field, and ensure effective responses to wellness needs. Daily responsibilities include conducting health and wellness checks, first aid assessments, medication administration, and maintaining medical supplies to support the safety and well-being of all participants.

In this role, you will:

Provide leadership to the camp team by supporting the Camp Director and Coordinator in delivering health and wellness training sessions focused on both physical and mental health and safety Support the overall health and wellness of the camp community by actively providing resources, reviewing camper and staff health forms, monitoring pertinent health information that requires special attention, and conducting regular check-ins with staff and campers Ensure compliance with health and safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized, and safe environment to protect the well-being of all campers, staff, and volunteers Support campers and staff in having a positive experience at camp by conducting regular check-ins with campers, camper groups, and counsellors Ensure all administrative tasks are completed accurately and on time, including maintaining complete and timely records of accidents, incidents, and all documentation related to the camp wellness program Respond to first aid situations promptly and with care, ensuring appropriate communication with the Camp Director, external healthcare professionals, and parents as necessary Dispense camper medication according to instructions provided on camper health forms Support the out-tripping program by conducting pre- and post-trip health checks, assisting counsellors in packing and inventorying first aid kits, and ensuring proper medical preparedness for all trips Attend all staff trainings and meetings, arrive on time, actively participate, and contribute to the development and learning of all staff members Build and maintain positive relationships with members, staff, volunteers, and community partners Act as a positive role model for all participants and staff by embodying the values of the YMCA, following Pine Crest's guiding principles, and adhering to YMCA policies, procedures, and Ontario Camps Association guidelines Perform other duties as assigned

You bring:

Standard First Aid and CPR-C required by the start date and valid for the duration of the contract Currently enrolled in post-secondary education such as Nursing, Child and Youth Studies, or Social Work considered an asset Previous experience working with children, preferably in a health and wellness setting Valid driver's license Mental Health First Aid certification Ability to work effectively with others and independently to achieve optimal collective results Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment Well-developed interpersonal, and relationship building skills; ability to establish rapport and excellent communication with members, staff and volunteers Ability to provide mentorship and guidance to both inexperienced and seasoned staff Ability to deliver feedback in a timely, professional, and constructive manner Flexibility regarding assigned working hours, including days, evenings, overnights, weekends, and holidays required Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and building a sense of belonging
