Mental Health Counsellors are responsible for providing counselling and case management for clients who participate in CUPS programming and are connected to the CUPS Health Clinic. The Mental Outreach Health Counsellor will provide individual, and group counselling in client homes, in-person at CUPS and occasionally remotely, complete outcome assessment and collaborate with internal and external resources as needed to support client goals. Leadership:
  • Create an approachable, caring and trauma-informed environment for clients, guests and colleagues
  • Operate in synergy with CUPS internal departments connecting clients to internal resources as desired and beneficial for the client accessing external resources when appropriate
  • Act as warden for client dignity by ensuring confidential client information is handled with the utmost care and respect in alignment with HIPA and CUPS privacy protocols & values
  • Facilitate a healthy and safe work environment through learning and enacting all CUPS health & safety protocols while maintaining an active awareness of clients and colleagues
  • Promote a culture that reflects CUPS vision, mission, philosophies and values
Organizational Alignment and Performance:
  • Provide individual and group counselling services to clients based on best practices and a high standard of clinical expertise both in-person and remotely/virtually, onsite or via outreach
  • Assess and respond to client needs on a dynamic basis
  • Provide culturally aware support to CUPS clients, celebrating the diversity of clients and being aware of power dynamics of privilege and oppression that may be present
  • Develop a collaborative and growth-based relationship with CUPS Mental Health Program Manager to discuss caseload management, performance and client approach effectiveness via ongoing supervision
  • Participate in ongoing learning activities and share knowledge with colleagues in service to continuous improvement
  • Maintenance of Professional Regulatory Body\xe2\x80\x99s ethics, competency, and developmental standards
  • Create, maintain and update progress notes, consent forms, assessments and all other documentation required, such as client contacts and outcome assessments
  • Accurately enter all required data points in organizational & external databases (i.e. client contacts and outcome measures) and participating in program research as required
Stakeholder Relations:
  • Develop and maintain collaborative and accountable working relations with internal CUPS colleagues and external service partners to strengthen communication flow and cross-program understanding
  • Participate in CUPS organizational initiatives and events as an engaged stakeholder in organizational culture
  • Provide caring, reliable, trauma-informed care to all clients accessing CUPS to reduce barriers to service and increase community trust
  • Share experience and knowledge with students, volunteers and guests interested in CUPS services to further develop CUPS social justice impact & external ambassador network
Background required:
  • Master\xe2\x80\x99s Degree in Social Work or Psychology (or equivalent) with 3 years\xe2\x80\x99 experience in Mental Health Counselling and currently registered, in good standing, with Professional Regulatory Body
  • Previous experience working with clients experiencing poverty, food & housing insecurity, addictions and the impacts of trauma an asset
  • Beneficial experience & Training include: EMDR, Psychometric testing and assessment, Dialectical and Cognitive Behavioral Therapies, Addictions and Harm Reduction, Trauma Therapies and Group Development and Facilitation
  • Working knowledge of the DSM 5
  • Excellent case reporting & documentation, with knowledge and understanding of client service outcome tracking
  • Proficiency in client databases (ex. FCSS, HMIS, etc.) considered an asset
  • Current CPR certificate an asset
Work Schedule/Environment:
  • Hybrid work environment: On-site at CUPS, in client homes, and occasionally remote from home
  • Driving required for outreach meetings throughout Calgary Area
  • 1 FTE position, 5 days/week
Employability Requirements for role:
  • Class 5 Driver\xe2\x80\x99s License with a clear drivers abstract and personal vehicle available to use for work purposes
  • Successful Police/RCMP Criminal Background and Vulnerable Sector Check
  • Proof of Covid 19 vaccination as per CUPS vaccination policy
