CASA Mental Health is an established non-profit organization delivering holistic, culturally-safe wrap-around mental health services to Albertans and their families. CASA provides mental health service to the missing middle \xe2\x80\x93 mental health treatment for diagnosed children and youth, in between prevention and promotion in primary and community care, and acute treatment in hospital.

CASA\xe2\x80\x99s team of mental health professionals are trauma experts committed to delivering service in collaboration with community partners. This includes assessment and treatment for up to 4,000 children, youth and their families each year, from community outreach settings to intensive treatment programs.

About the Role

CASA\xe2\x80\x99s Core mental health clinic is an amalgamation of two previously separate intake streams, Infant and Preschool Services and School Aged Services. The implementation of Core means one single stream of intake, no matter the age of the child. Through Core, we provide timely and high-quality mental health care to children and youth ages three to 17 and their families.

Reporting to the Clinical Manager and working with the Nursing Professional Practice Lead, the Mental Health Nurse works collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to provide and coordinate services for children, youth and families receiving mental health care from CASA..

The Mental Health Nurse will:

  • Provide nursing assessments and plans of care, including medication administration/monitoring, teaching, telephone follow-up and health promotion.
  • Practice according to the code of ethics and practice standards of their specific professional college.
  • Assist with individual or group therapy as directed when appropriate.
  • Liaise with other professionals to promote continuity of care and assist families with connecting to a primary care physician.
  • Identify service delivery improvements and suggest enhancements, utilizing a lens of evidence-informed practice and with consideration to CASA\xe2\x80\x99s strategic and operational plan.
  • Maintain patient electronic health records in a complete and timely way.
  • Work collaboratively with the research department to assist with critical appraisal, evaluation and knowledge transfer.
  • Contribute to program and clinical team meetings.

Minimum Salary: $38.91
Maximum Salary: $51.22
Hours per Shift: 7.25
Shifts per Week: Five
Days Off: Saturday/Sunday

Qualifications
  • Completion of an accredited nursing education program.
  • Member in good standing with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta or the College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Alberta.
  • Minimum three years\xe2\x80\x99 recent experience in pediatrics and mental health is required.
  • Relevant and practical experience in a child and adolescent mental health treatment setting.
  • Valid Class 5 operator\xe2\x80\x99s license and access to transportation.
Conditions of Employment
  • A satisfactory Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Search. This would be the financial responsibility of the successful candidate.
  • A satisfactory Child Intervention Check.
  • Proof of COVID-19 vaccination or exemption on the basis of a protected legal ground.
  • Ability to pass and maintain Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) certification (training provided by CASA), as well as physical ability to perform all interventions.
