Shared Health leads the planning and coordinates the integration of patient-centered clinical and preventive health services across Manitoba. The organization also delivers some province-wide health services and supports centralized administrative and business functions for Manitoba health organizations.


Position Overview


The Mental Health Clinician will provide brief treatment services to children and their families who are referred to the Community Child & Adolescent Treatment Service (CCATS), an MATC service within Mental Health and Addictions, Shared Health. A special focus area will include Ukrainian arrivals and other newcomers. The clients may present with a variety of mental health concerns that may have impact on their emotional, behavioral, and mental health at home, community and school environments. Treatment is embedded in a biopsychosocial and systemic framework that may involve crisis intervention and supportive measures to assist with adaptation to new environments. The Mental Health Clinician will participate as part of a Mental Health and Addictions outreach team to maximize access to treatment services.

Experience


  • 3-5 years experience preferred working with children, youth and families.
  • Experience and training in treatment models related to developmental trauma and/or attachment.
  • Experience and training in one or more of the following: CBT or DBT are assets.
  • Experience and knowledge in Brief Treatment models including treatment with parents and children are required.
  • Experience working with diverse cultural groups including First Nations and Newcomers is desirable.

Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)


  • Qualified as a Psychiatric Nurse, Occupational Therapist (MOT), Clinical Social Worker (MSW), Family Therapist (MFT), or equivalent.
  • An equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered.

Certification/Licensure/Registration


  • Staff not licensed/registered with a legislated professional body must be registered/certified with an appropriate Association.

Qualifications and Skills


  • Training and demonstrated skill in several of the following areas: clinical assessment, individual, group, family therapy, systems intervention, mental health promotion activities.
  • Commitment to working with families from diverse backgrounds with approaches that maximize accessibility.
  • Ability to develop positive working relationships and to work within a multi-disciplinary team of community-based organizations, child welfare, health, and educational systems.
  • Knowledge of child and adolescent development, and mental health issues in childhood and adolescence including suicide risk assessment and risk management.
  • Knowledge of community-based mental health service delivery, culturally competent practice, and the biopsychosocial approach to mental health are required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of trauma and its impact, including the effects of colonization and inter-generational trauma on children, youth and their families.
  • Understanding and appreciation of the impact of our history related to colonization and outcomes from the Truth and Reconciliation Commission including its Calls to Action.
  • Ability to speak Ukrainian and/or Russian is an asset.
