Overview:




The Mental Health and Addictions Support Worker is a key member of a multidisciplinary team in a co-ed inpatient facility. This role supports clients in recovery through daily structured activities, supportive interactions, and implementation of therapeutic programming. You will be responsible for providing direct client care, supporting daily routines, promoting healthy behaviors, and ensuring the smooth operation of the facility during your shift.


We are seeking compassionate, dependable, and motivated individuals who demonstrate sound judgment, initiative, and a strong commitment to client-centered care in a trauma-informed environment.

Key Responsibilities:



Client Interaction & Support



Provide daily wake-up calls for clients on the day shift Offer supportive counseling, which involves active listening, encouragement, and emotional support to help clients process their experiences and stay engaged in treatment. Note: Supportive counseling is not formal therapy or clinical intervention. It is non-directive, non-clinical, and focused on being present, validating emotions, and reinforcing recovery goals within your scope of practice. Assist clients in understanding and following facility rules and policies. Facilitate meditation sessions in the morning and evening. Lead or assist with psychoeducation and therapeutic groups. Facilitate group programming during night shifts, if outlined in the schedule. Accompany clients on outings, especially weekends, including recreational activities. Transport clients when necessary, including trips to the airport or other locations in the Maritimes. Take clients to the gym on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday during the day. Ensure clients go to bed on time as per facility schedule (lights out enforcement). Maintain client engagement in a safe, respectful, and non-judgmental manner.

Client Assessments - Measurement-Based Care



Support the completion of Measurement-Based Care (MBC) assessments at three intervals: + Initial assessment: within 2 days of arrival, once the client is stable.
+ Midway assessment: at the halfway point of treatment.
+ Final assessment: during the client's last week in treatment.
Coordinate with clinical team members to ensure assessments are completed compassionately and on time.

Onboarding & Aftercare Coordination



Set up and support client onboarding appointments. Ensure onboarding forms are filled out and returned to the Transition Counsellor. Ensure clients scheduled for the 3:00 PM Thursday Onboarding appointment are properly set up on the client laptop connected to the group room TV. Arrange for the 15-minute Aftercare video to be shown to clients on the Sunday prior to their Online Aftercare appointment. Confirm that clients have completed Aftercare video viewing and are prepared for follow-up appointments.

Facility Operations



Attend and contribute to team meetings. Document shift activities, incidents, and client interactions in the KIPU system. Ensure client appointments for the week are written clearly on the whiteboard. Complete assigned training modules through ADP and maintain certification. Ensure coffee is available to clients in the morning and during appropriate hours. Perform light cleaning duties once clients are in bed. Contact the on-call supervisor in case of an incident or emergency during your shift.

Demonstrate the ability to make sound decisions in the best interest of clients and the program. Support and promote a safe, respectful, inclusive, and recovery-focused environment. Maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries at all times. Collaborate with clinical and support teams to ensure continuity of care. Ensure timely and accurate shift handovers and documentation.

Required Qualifications:



Diploma or certificate in Addictions, Mental Health, Social Services, or a related field. Minimum 1-2 years' experience working in mental health and/or addictions support (preferred). Valid Class 5 driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle (preferred for transportation duties). Current First Aid/CPR, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI), or equivalent. Familiarity with trauma-informed care, harm reduction, and recovery models. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Comfortable using electronic systems such as KIPU and ADP.
