Summary
We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Men's Mental Health Facilitator to lead group-based mental health support sessions for men experiencing emotional, psychological, or life challenges. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a direct and meaningful impact in the lives of men by providing a safe, respectful, and supportive environment where they can share experiences, build resilience, and explore effective coping strategies
Group/Meeting Facilitation
- Foster a group dynamic that promotes inclusivity, respect, and mutual support among participants.
- Facilitate structured group sessions for men, incorporating evidence-based practices to promote mental wellness and resilience.
- Identify signs of mental distress among participants and respond with appropriate interventions and/or referrals.
- Conduct risk assessments and crisis interventions, utilizing de-escalation techniques and adhering to emergency protocols when necessary.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of community resources and emergency contacts, providing referrals and follow-up support as needed.
- Understanding and use of conflict resolution strategies as needed.
- Establish and maintain appropriate and ethical boundaries.
Administration
- Document session details, and crisis incidents while ensuring confidentiality and compliance with legal and ethical guidelines.
- Collect and record evaluations and provide recommendations for outcome delivery and changes when required/indicated.
- Ensure all support group meetings are effectively prepared in advance.
- Participate in supervision and team meetings, contributing to the program's continuous improvement and development as required.
RCSP
- Participate in special projects as schedule permits and attend related meetings as required.
- Collaborate with mental health professionals, stakeholders, and community organizations to advocate for men's mental health.
- Engage in continuous professional development to enhance facilitation skills, including workshops on crisis management, emotional regulation, and self-care.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Addictions, Social Work, Psychology, Counselling, or related field or equivalent experience. Registered and in good standing with the relevant provincial or territorial regulatory body (if applicable). Equivalent experience and skills will be considered.
- Minimum of five years of experience in social work or mental health services, with a focus on men's issues preferred.
- Trained in crisis intervention and risk assessment, with the ability to maintain a calm and effective response during emergencies.
- Ability to work evenings to meet the needs of the program and its participants. - Knowledge and experience in mental health, skills in crisis intervention and risk assessment.
- Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) workshop certification, Indigenous Canada Course, Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) certification, Standard First Aid & CPR or equivalent OR a combination of relevant experience/training.
