Job Description


Duties and Responsibilities:
The MEng Graduate Administrator supports the MEng graduate program in Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) and the MEng graduate program in Biomedical Engineering (BME), which can be completed by coursework or coursework and project, and their specializations and/or concentrations.

The MEng ECE and the MEng BME are offered through the Ottawa-Carleton Institute for Electrical and Computer Engineering (OCIECE) and the Ottawa-Carleton Institute for Biomedical Engineering (OCIBME), respectively, which combine the resources of several units at Carleton University and several units at the University of Ottawa, under the umbrella of the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Affairs (FGPA).

Under the direction of the Associate Chair, Graduate and/or their delegate, the MEng Graduate Administrator is responsible for carrying out substantially all administrative matters pertaining to the MEng ECE and the MEng BME graduate programs, including but not restricted to: providing direction to students and faculty regarding graduate issues such as program requirements, application evaluations, registration, scholarships and awards, and graduation; generating the required documentation for admissions, student funding, student audits, graduation lists, graduate calendar submissions, etc.

Qualifications: The incumbent must possess the following qualifications:

  • Superior planning skills, understanding critical paths, setting priorities and meeting deadlines.
  • Superior organizational skills to coordinate and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are required.
  • Strong professionalism, tact and diplomacy with a strong customer service ethic and high expectations for quality are required.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, must be self-motivated and is effective working in a team and independently is required.
  • Experience with spreadsheets and/or relational databases are essential to keep track of student records.
  • Good understanding of the University\xe2\x80\x99s general Undergraduate and Graduate Calendar.
Education and Experience: The above is normally acquired through:
  • The completion of an undergraduate University degree; or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Four years of relevant experience preferably in the field of post-secondary educational administration; equivalencies will be considered.
Assets:
  • Experience in an academic unit
  • Experience with student advising
  • Experience with website maintenance and social media
