We are a group Family Medicine practice in west Toronto with a beautiful clinic and friendly doctors, coworkers and patients. The core group have worked collegially together for over 15 years and are very welcoming to new hires.

Job Environment



This is a modern medical office in a secure building near St. Joseph's Hospital that is on two TTC streetcar routes as well as having free underground parking. It has an open concept reception desk with plexiglass divider, onsite lab and triage area, six exam rooms, and large sunny office with kitchenette at the back.

The charts and most communication are computerized to minimize the use of paper.

Your choice to wear clean scrubs or any office-appropriate attire.

All levels of PPE supplied if requested, and we provide a safe, friendly working environment for all.

Required Education, Skills and Qualifications



We require someone who is somewhat flexible with hours and available for some weekday evenings and Saturdays. Shifts may be up to ten hours in length on some days. The job is part-time to start with opportunity for full-time hours with time and experience.

Venipuncture and lab specimen handling skills are mandatory. Injection experience and certification is not mandatory but would be a priority in hiring.

The job also requires telephone, computer and reception work, with a lot of patient interaction, so communication skills are highly important.

You must be comfortable and skilled at dealing with patients of all ages, from infants to the elderly.

English proficiency, ability to multi-task, and computer knowledge are necessary. We use Avaros EMR (very similar to Oscar).

This job is most suitable for RPNs and laboratory technicians with OSMT / CSMLS certification.

Job Duties



The following is a more detailed list of possible tasks involved with this position. Your hours may range from part-time at 20 hrs/wk to full-time at over 40 hrs/wk based on need and performance. There are shifts where you will be able to work from home once experienced and trusted. Many duties are shared among other coworkers, but you must be able to work alone with one doctor during certain shifts:

Front Desk

Book appointments for patients, check voicemail for cancellations, and help maintain schedule Responsible for all primary phone communication including answering non-medical questions (do not attempt to provide any medical advice on your own) Check health card validation, address and phone number, and alerts/overdue fees at check-in Document all conversations when providing permitted medical advice along with patient's response Patient call backs as instructed through EMR or other forms of physician direction If unable to contact and/or book patient within timeframe specified by physician for MD Callbacks, notify physician by written message
Computer

Familiarize yourself with the present computer system (Avaros EMR) including electronic faxing, scanning and linking documents, etc Monitoring and responding to messages from patients, uploading documents and forwarding information as instructed by doctors Continued proficiency with EMR and computer software as updates occur
Exam Room and Patient Preparation

Review appointment list before each shift to ensure equipment and supplies are available Ensure that exam rooms are clean and stocked each day Clean and tidy rooms (new table paper, dispose of used supplies, wipe down any fluids, sanitize surfaces) after patient leaves and call the next patient in Weigh and measure patients for periodic health reviews, diabetic follow-ups and well-baby appointments Use automatic BP monitor to measure and record for patients who need blood pressure checked Chaperone breast and gynecological exams for male physicians or as requested
Lab duties

Perform venipuncture (and injections if trained and licensed) Label specimens and requisitions and send to lab Complete information on requisitions that are routine, eg pap/hpv tests Set up Procedure and Pap/HPV test trays Draw up vaccines as per Ontario schedule, ones brought by patient, and B12 or other injectables with approval of physician Maintaining and sterilizing equipment as per protocol
Medications and Sharps

Maintain organization and tidiness of drug sample cabinets Check expiry dates on all pharmaceuticals at least monthly Follow protocols for disposal of outdated medications Proper disposal of sharps and sharps containers
Cleaning Procedures

As per Infection Control Policy Maintaining tidiness of all parts of clinic, including waiting room, bathroom and lunch room during the workday. We have cleaners come in nightly to do waste removal and more deep cleaning.
Job Types: Part-time, Permanent

Pay: $18.00-$20.00 per hour

Expected hours: 8 - 25 per week
