What we are looking for:

We are seeking a dynamic, self-directed individual with exceptional customer service skills and qualifications in library sciences to join us. Reporting to the Manager Professional Practice and working in collaboration with colleagues/partners across the organization, the successful candidate is an innovative and enthusiastic leader with strong commitment to support our academic and research programs and engage in community partnership.

The Medical Librarian (ML) is responsible for assisting healthcare professionals with accessing and retrieving information related to the healthcare sector. The ML also helps patients retrieve information related to certain health conditions. They have a direct impact on the quality of patient care, by helping physicians, allied health professionals, learners and researchers to stay abreast of new developments in their specialty areas and will provide access to resources in a variety of formats, ranging from traditional print to electronic sources and data.

What you bring to the role:
  • Masters degree required: MLS, MLIS or MIS from American Library Association accredited program
  • Minimum 3 years experience preferred in an academic health sciences environment
  • Knowledge of evidence-based practice processes and tools
  • Experience with OVID, PubMed, ProQuest, EBSCO database
  • Experience with automated library systems, including competence in using an online integrated library system and web-based library services, required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Canadian medical libraries, health care system, copyright laws and library legislations, ILL Systems, bio-medical and scientific print and e-resources, products and services
  • Experience and strong interest in planning and developing library promotional and instructional materials/activities
  • Experience in community outreach and engagement
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and foster strong relationships and work collaboratively with peers and internal and external partners
  • Experience in preparing and delivering individual and group training sessions. Strong customer focus, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Current knowledge of the issues and trends in library services, information technologies, copyright and the Canadian healthcare system
  • Excellent computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office, Outlook, and other programs/applications and internet-based resources), and verbal and written communication skills
  • Proven ability to work independently, while providing leadership and training to volunteers
  • Proven dedication to lifelong learning and continuous quality improvement with a high level of professionalism
  • Demonstrated good attendance and performance records with the ability to maintain these same standards
  • Demonstrates a commitment to a healthy and safe workplace for self and others (staff, patients, families, etc.) by taking all reasonable precautions and working in compliance with hospital related policies, health and safety legislation and best practices and completing relevant mandatory education as required
Work Schedule:

This is a reduced full-time position.

The successful candidate will be required to work 8 hour day shifts between Monday to Friday. The candidate will also have some alternating 4 day weeks since this is a reduced full-time position.

Compensation:

Salary Grid: Band N:
$35.55 - $43.25 per hour
$69,322 - 84,337 per year
