Job Description

Summary of Duties:




The Medical laboratory Assistant in Molecular Diagnostics provides support services to ensure quality patient care. This includes: answering phone calls; specimen handling (receiving, sorting); routine technical procedures; SunQuest/CoPath computer data entry; filing and retrieving records; equipment maintenance; front-line customer service; may include rotation into Anatomic Pathology; and other duties as required. The Medical Laboratory Assistant plays an integral role in the department through team collaboration with peers, MLTs, Pathologists and management, supporting and assisting activities to enhance best practices for quality services and providing a safe working environment for all.




Qualifications/Skills:




MLA certification with MLPAO or equivalent - required Prior molecular experience - preferred Prior experience handling all specimen types demonstrating good laboratory practice - required TDG certification - preferred Knowledge of privacy regulations related to confidential information - preferred Prior knowledge of Sunquest and CoPath lab systems - preferred Demonstrate exceptional attention to detail and accuracy Must be adaptable to a fast changing, highly technological environment Excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills Knowledge of specimen and diagnostic terminology with accurate spelling Fast, accurate keyboard data entry * Work cooperatively in a team environment but also independently with limited supervision
