The Hamilton Regional Laboratory Medicine Program (HRLMP) is a collaborative program funded and operated jointly by Hamilton Health Sciences and St. Josephs Hospital. The Program is committed to change and innovation, through education, service and research, to bring the highest quality science into healthcare for the benefit of the community and to participate in the clinical application and interpretation of the science.
Position Summary
Under supervision and direction, responsible for the proper collection of appropriate specimens for laboratory testing on inpatients and outpatients. Performs a variety of laboratory tasks, including but not exclusive to specimen reception, sorting and labeling, data entry, specimen separation and preparation, which require learned manual skills rather than a technological training. Assists the Medical Laboratory Technologists in various sections within the Department of Laboratory Medicine.

Qualifications
1. Grade 12 education or recognized equivalent
2. OSMT or CSMLS Certification as a Medical Laboratory Assistant
3. Recent experience in Core Laboratory
4. Experience in receiving and handling Laboratory Specimens
5. Experience and demonstrated proficiency in venous and capillary blood collection for pediatrics and infants
6. Data entry and Order entry skills in Meditech
7. Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a team environment
