Reporting to the Manager, Engineering and Design, the
Mechanical Technologist
will have a wide range of duties focused on the design, development and sustaining of Milron truck service body products.
What You'll Do:
The Mechanical Technologist will be a member of a multi-disciplinary Engineering and Design team which is responsible for the design and development of Milron products. This role will collaborate with our engineering, production and marketing teams to create functional and manufacturable designs from concept to production. You will be expected to work independently on specific tasks with minimal guidance.
Key Responsibilities:
Product Design and Development: Conceptualize and design high-quality, innovative products to meet and/or exceed internal and external client requirements from initial sketches to final (3D) models and detailed technical drawings for manufacturing.
Manufacturing Support: Ensure accurate deliverables (e.g. engineering drawings and procedures) and collaborate with Production teams to ensure products are delivered on time and on budget with minimal rework or scrap.
Sales Support: Collaborate with the Sales team to translate customer requirements into creative manufacturable designs and provide timely responses to client requests.
Customer Support and Sustaining Engineering: Provide best-in-class customer support and after sales service by responding to client questions and concerns and providing timely support for any product revisions, repairs or rework.
Quality: Actively contribute to the development, implementation and continuous improvement of company systems and processes to ensure products consistently meet regulatory and client requirements.
Qualifications
Requirements:
Diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology or similar.
2+ years of progressive experience in mechanical design and product development including creating 3D models, drafting, prototyping, and testing.
Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, materials and fasteners particularly with sheet metals (steel, aluminum), metal fabrication, and welding.
Proficiency in CAD (Solidworks, AutoCAD, Fusion).
Experience creating detailed technical drawings and specifications.
Equivalencies:
(Mechanical) Design/Drafting/CAD/CAM Technology diploma from an accredited technical institution with relevant experience may also be considered.
Assets:
Registered, or eligible for registration with ASET.
CAD/CAM Experience (MasterCAM, Lantek, etc)
3+ years experience in the design, fabrication and support of products in automotive, trucking, trailers, mining/construction vehicles and/or cranes/lifting equipment including hydraulics, sheet metal design and structural welding.
Structural analysis methods (e.g. FEA/FEM/Solid Mechanics) and structural testing.
Familiarity with design for manufacturability (DFM) and design for assembly (DFA) principles.
Experience working in a regulated industry (e.g. DOT, FMVSS, Transport, Aerospace) and product certification.
Experience with highly configurable products in PDM and ERP systems.
Experience working in a quality management system (ISO, etc.).

Position Information
This is a full-time permanent salaried position based out of our main office and production facilities located in west Edmonton. The standard hours of work are 8:00am to 4:30pm, Monday to Friday but work outside these hours may be required to meet project and client deadlines.
