About the Role



We are seeking a Mechanical Technologist to join our Charlottetown, PEI office. Reporting to the Director of Mechanical Engineering, you will work closely with engineers, architects, designers, technologists, and project managers as part of our multidisciplinary team.

In this role, you will support and assist engineers and other designers with the design of mechanical systems for buildings and other infrastructure (including HVAC, plumbing, controls, fire protection, and other relevant systems) on projects from concept through design, tender, construction and commissioning. Responsibilities include preparing drawings, models and specifications; assisting with calculations and equipment selection; and coordinating with other disciplines to produce clear, practical, and buildable designs. Success in this role will be demonstrated through delivery of well coordinated, buildable mechanical designs that support project quality, schedule and client satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities



Support and assist with the design and development of mechanical systems for buildings and other infrastructure.

Work collaboratively with Coles' architectural and engineering teams to produce coordinated, accurate design documents.

Prepare drawings, models, and calculations using tools such as Revit, AutoCAD, Carrier HAP, and Matterport,

Apply applicable building codes and standards (e.g., NBC, NECB, ASHRAE, NFPA) to support compliant and practical designs.

Support project delivery through all phases, from concept and detailed design to tendering, contract administration and commissioning.

Communicate with team members, clients, and contractors as required to help resolve design questions and maintain coordination.

Key Qualifications



Diploma or degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Building Systems, or a related field

Minimum 5 years of relevant experience preparing mechanical drawings and design documentation for HVAC, plumbing, controls and fire protection systems for commercial, institutional, and/or industrial projects

Experience using Revit and AutoCAD (SolidWorks, Inventor and Catia will also be considered)

Working knowledge of applicable building codes and standards (e.g., NBC, NECB, ASHRAE, NFPA)

Familiarity with energy modelling, spatial modelling, and load calculation software (e.g., Carrier HAP, Matterport) is considered an asset

Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary consulting team and manage multiple project tasks

Strong attention to detail, organization, and follow-through

Good written and verbal communication skills

Willingness to learn, take direction, and grow within a professional consulting environment
