Mechanical Technologist or Engineer (Intermediate)

Position Summary:



We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer or Technologist to design, document and communicate projects of varying size and complexity. Reporting directly to the Engineering Manager and working closely with our design team, project managers, and shop staff, your primary focus will be to set equipment specifications and create designs to satisfy the project scope.

The Engineering team requires a mechanical designer to help design, document and communicate projects of varying size and complexity. You will be comfortable making technical decisions, creating plans, interfacing with fabricators, vendors, clients, and partners on a continual basis, and controlling and reporting on activities.

This role requires a positive attitude, strong interpersonal skills and the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. The ideal candidate is an analytical thinker that can meet tight deadlines, work well with a diverse and committed team, and has excellent organizational and communication skills.

Responsibilities and Duties:



Perform design calculations and prepare technical specifications.

Develop CAD drawings and review coworker's drawings for accuracy.

Review vendor documents for compliance with project specifications and industry standards.

Prepare and review of P&ID's to support both bidding and project execution.

Research equipment requirements; including direct contact with authorities, clients, and vendors.

Prepare cost estimates in accordance with project scopes and technical specifications.

Identify quality requirements and ensure the proper processes are identified and implemented to achieve contractual quality commitments.

Understand project scopes and ensure designs are configured appropriately.

Support the project teams by improving internal processes and recommending design solutions.

Assist other departments in preparation of manuals and sales literature on assigned projects.

Maintain knowledge of relevant design and construction codes.

Qualifications and Skills:



Working knowledge of AutoCAD and SolidWorks are required.

Technical competence in process equipment design, with strong attention to detail.

Experience with design of brewing, distilling, extraction, food processing, and pharmaceutical equipment are considered assets.

Ability to plan and organize workflow to meet varying workload demands and adapt to changing and competing priorities.

Problem solving skills, accuracy, and attention to detail are critical.

Demonstrated experience designing custom equipment, following applicable codes and standards

Excellent time management, multi-tasking, organizational, and leadership skills

Ability to maintain a high level of professional performance in a dynamic environment

Strong understanding of mechanical and electrical equipment, including ability to troubleshoot

Critical thinking and problem solving

Planning and organizing

Excellent verbal, written and presentation communication skills

Willingness to be flexible and adaptable, do what it takes to get the job done attitude

Experience working with the following codes are considered assets:

ASME Section VIII, Div.1/Div.2

ASME B31.1/B31.3

Building codes (BCBC, NBC, IBC, etc.)

Experience with FEA and CFD for structural, thermal, and fluid flow design is considered an asset.
