Overview / Responsibilities

Wood is seeking an experienced Mechanical Commissioning Technician to join the team in Calgary.

Responsibilities

The responsibilities of a Mechanical Technician will depend on the size and scope of the project.

The Mechanical Technician reports to the Mechanical Lead; and

  • Completes the hands-on mechanical tasks relevant to the mechanical procedures.
  • Works on-site with I&C Lead.
Safety
  • Review procedures and ensure all applicable project procedures are being implemented.
  • All safety procedures must be followed as per the commissioning procedures.
Quality
  • Demonstrate leadership in a team-based environment.
  • Support and facilitate a highly effective, collaborative environment with open communication to the team.
Budget
  • Inform the team lead of any issues that could affect the budget.
Scheduling
  • As directed by the Mechanical Lead, execute FCD, RFI, SFR, or NCR\xe2\x80\x99s to ensure timely replacement or answers to meet commissioning schedule.
  • Inform Lead Team of any issues that could affect or cause delays in completion of his/her team commissioning activities.
Commissioning Practices
  • Valve/Actuator/Tank Mixer Stroking.
  • Witness and perform Pump/Motor Alignment Activities.
  • Uncoupled Motor Runs (including vibration analysis).
  • Coupled Pump Runs (including vibration analysis).
  • Perform non-comprehensive piping vibration analysis.
  • Perform millwright duties that pertain to pumps, motors, valves.
  • Conduct/attend site walk-downs prior to commissioning work.
  • Inspection of installed mechanical equipment.
  • Working closely with instrumentation & control and electrical discipline leads.
Communicate regularly with the mechanical leads and other team leads for Phase 2 issues with dry commissioning, FCD that have been issued, failed equipment, faulty design and, in general, all issues that could affect or cause delays in completion of his/her team commissioning

Skills / Qualifications

Qualifications for a Mechanical Technician could be one or more of the following:
  • Recognized degree in an engineering discipline.
  • Recognized degree in a scientific discipline.
  • Recognized certificate in a journeyman millwright discipline.
  • Equivalent years of relevant experience.
Additionally, Mechanical Technicians must have knowledge in the following:
  • The mechanical system installed at the facilities.
  • Awareness of the \xe2\x80\x9cZero Accidents\xe2\x80\x9d safety program.
  • Current industry quality standards.
  • State, provincial, federal, and local contracting requirements.
  • Preferred experience for a Mechanical Technician is 5 or more years of progressive, relevant experience in the millwright field on rotating equipment and start-up of oil/gas pipelines, pump/compressor stations, and terminals.
