Job Overview

Westcal Insulation Ltd. is a growing mechanical insulation and firestop contractor looking for estimators that must hold a degree in mechanical engineering and preferably have commercial mechanical engineering experience.

Duties:

Quantity Take-offs & Estimates:

Perform detailed take-offs from drawings to determine the required amounts of insulation, cladding, and firestop materials.

Bid Preparation:

Prepare and submit comprehensive proposals and competitive bids for mechanical insulation and firestop projects.

Site Evaluation:

Attend pre-bid meetings and site walkthroughs to assess job site conditions.

Cost Analysis:

Calculate labor hours, equipment requirements, and material costs to determine the most cost-effective solutions.

Vendor Relations:

Solicit quotes from suppliers, negotiate pricing, and maintain a directory of suppliers and subcontractors.

Technical Compliance:

Ensure all estimates align with industry standards, manufacturer requirements (e.g., Hilti, 3M, STI), and safety regulations.

Project Documentation:

Review contract documents, manage change orders, and assist with project scheduling upon contract award.

Required:

Experience:

Generally requires 2-3+ years of experience in mechanical insulation or firestop contracting. Experience with estimating is an asset.

Technical Skills:

Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, mechanical drawings, and specifications.

Software Proficiency:

Experience with takeoff and estimating software (e.g., MIKE) and MS Office (specifically Excel).

Analytical Skills:

Strong mathematical skills for precise calculations of materials and labor.

Communication:

Excellent interpersonal skills to communicate with clients, engineers, and field personnel.

Job Type:

Full-time, long term and secure and has room for advancement.
