The facilities capital and operating expenditures are in the range of $100M for the University\xe2\x80\x99s $2.0 billion assets under management. The 20-year Capital spending plan envisions $4.0 billion of new investment highlighted by uOttawa launch of project Top Shelf, a $300 million capital investment to build a new facility for the Faculty of Health Sciences at uOttawa\xe2\x80\x99s River Campus, as well as a tower at the Roger Guidon campus to house uOttawa\xe2\x80\x99s new Advanced Medical Research Center (AMRC). Position purpose:
Provide expertise in mechanical engineering to all University\'s real estate and renovation projects. As a professional engineer (P.Eng.), the incumbent sees to the development of standards, procedures and methods for the University and oversees compliance of these in the implementation of projects. Supports project managers in defining optimal solutions while ensuring compliance by working with regulatory bodies, external consultants and other stakeholders. Leads the assessment of the complexity of projects and the development of commissioning methods and performance tests. This is a new role and the position will remain open until position is filled. In this role, your responsibilities will include:

  • Develop norms, standards, procedures, and control methods to evaluate the quality of projects in relation to the plans and specifications and to ensure optimal delivery of projects in your field of expertise.
  • Support project managers by closely monitoring the compliance of work performed by service providers with the University\'s norms, standards, procedures, and methods.
  • Analyze and review mechanical and electrical designs and drawings.
  • Identify, resolve and/or refer technical issues to project managers to minimize impact on project progress.
  • Collaborate with various regulatory agents (e.g., City of Ottawa) to find solutions that meet the requirements of the various codes and standards and limit or reduce costs to the University.
What you will bring:
  • Degree in mechanical engineering.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) registered with the Professional Engineers of Ontario.
  • In-depth knowledge and experience with systems: heating, ventilation and air-conditioned (HVAC); plumbing; building electrical of 600V and less; building automatic control; fire protection; industrial ventilation (fume hoods).
  • Ten (10) years of experience in project and budget management and cost estimates, in particular in construction projects as well as risk management.
  • Bilingualism (French and English) - spoken and written is preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge and experience in Ontarian construction regulations, in City of Ottawa bylaws (Ontario Building Code, etc) and in construction field health and safety.
  • Knowledge and experience in using related software and Office suite.
  • Excellent skills in communication and conflict resolution.
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent Salary: $90,969.00-$113,711.00 per year Benefits:
