Summary:



Blue Falls Manufacturing ("BFM") is currently seeking a full-time Mechanical Engineer to join its dynamic Continuous Improvement team. The primary focus of this position is to provide direct support for manufacturing through mechanical engineering solutions and processes and new product development. This role requires proficiency and experience in the application of technical engineering concepts and the use of standard engineering programs to produce innovative, high caliber products. The Mechanical Engineer is a team player who is creative, progressive, and skilled in the design, testing, and manufacturing of mechanical systems.

Please be advised that Blue Falls Manufacturing has multiple locations throughout Alberta, Canada; our organization also has a US manufacturing division. Though this position is primarily based out of our manufacturing headquarters in Thorsby, AB, occasional travel to our Breton and Edmonton (Winterburn) plants is required. The successful candidate must possess a valid driver's license and reliable personal transportation to travel to different locations as needed. The select candidate must also have the ability to travel domestically, cross-border and/or internationally as necessary, to carry out your duties as needed.

Work/life balance is part of BFM's philosophy - the Continuous Improvement team works Monday thru Friday, typically 8:00AM to 4:30PM (hours may be subject to minor fluctuation based on operational requirements).

Duties:



Manufacturing Support

Analyze production processes and implement engineering solutions to enhance efficiency and reduce waste Provide direct support for manufacturing through engineering solutions and processes Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence of issues Develop and update standard operating procedures (SOPs) related to mechanical operations Assist with the installation and integration of machine upgrades on the plant floor Work with vendors to resolve technical issues, evaluate design changes, and explore new tooling or component opportunities Collaborate with the Maintenance department to plan and execute equipment upgrades and end-of-life replacements
Jigs/Fixtures & New Equipment Development

Design, analyze, and test mechanical components and systems for new equipment/processes Design and implement equipment upgrades to improve efficiency, safety, and throughput Perform simulations and prototyping to validate designs Support troubleshooting and problem-solving efforts during the manufacturing and testing phases Work collaboratively with Continuous Improvement, Maintenance and R&D engineering team members Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Procurement, Inventory Control, and Safety to ensure equipment feasibility i.e. generate new concepts and provide technical and cost assessments Analyze production processes and recommend engineering solutions to reduce waste, mitigate risk, and increase efficiency Develop and maintain SOPs and training manuals for processes and equipment operation Source and specify hardware and components as required for equipment design and prototyping

Skills/Abilities:



Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies considered an asset Demonstrated ability to develop innovative, cost-effective engineering solutions Diligent and detail oriented; Resourceful and flexible Excellent time and project management skills Excellent organizational skills with ability to prioritize tasks Proactive and enthusiastic in approaching challenges with solution-oriented mindset Effective both independently and in team-based environments, with a collaborative mindset Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills for cross-functional coordination Adept critical thinking and problem-solving skills to handle a variety of technical challenges Broad manufacturing background with hands-on experience and proficiency in varying fabrication methods

Computing & Technical Proficiency:



Proficiency in CAD software (e.g. Autodesk Inventor, Fusion 360, AutoCAD) Microsoft (Excel & Word) Project Management Software (Asana)

Experience:



3 to 6 years (end to end lifecycle) engineering experience in related field required Project management experience preferred Minimum of three (3) years of experience in manufacturing or closely related industry Demonstrated experience with machine design & development

Education/Training/Certification:



Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering required Working towards or in possession of Professional Engineering designation

Compensation:

Work Environment/Conditions:



Hours of work 8:00AM to 4:30PM Time will be split in varying proportions between office, laboratory, and production floor settings May be exposed to chemicals/fumes, dust/particulates, and varying noise levels

Other:



Valid Driver's License and reliable personal transportation to commute to and from work and/or between manufacturing plant locations on occasion Ability to travel to various company locations if/as required Steel or composite-toed footwear required (bring/buy your own); all other essential PPE provided by BFM Please be advised that all Continuous Improvement team members are fit-tested for respiratory gear, no exceptions. Team members may regularly attend or be called upon to tend to any/all areas within the plant(s), at any time
