Job Description

Job Title: Mechanical Engineer

The Mechanical Engineer II is responsible for supporting all phases of mechanical system design and implementation for industrial and commercial construction projects. This includes requirements analysis, system design, material selection, engineering execution, and project close-out activities, with a strong focus on piping and HVAC systems.
Responsibilities

  • Provide engineering and design support for piping and auxiliary systems during construction, integration, and testing phases.
  • Review and resolve production issues such as system interferences, material substitutions, and design deviations, ensuring compliance with engineering intent and regulatory standards.
  • Assess design and calculation packages to confirm conformance with contract, class, and regulatory requirements.
  • Prepare and update technical documentation, including system drawings, redlines, and engineering change requests (ECRs).
  • Collaborate with production, planning, and quality teams to develop practical engineering solutions that maintain cost, schedule, and technical integrity.
  • Provide technical clarification and field support to production personnel and subcontractors on mechanical and piping systems.
  • Coordinate with vendors and suppliers to review technical data, resolve discrepancies, and ensure delivered equipment meets system and installation requirements.
  • Review third-party and internal designs for compliance with specifications, standards, and integration interfaces.
  • Perform and review calculations to validate system design and compliance with the requirements.
  • Develop and maintain Bill of Materials (BOMs), ensuring part maturity, accuracy, and traceability in support of production and material procurement.
  • Support testing and commissioning activities, including review of system test agendas, witnessing tests, and resolving punch list items.
  • Coordinate closely with other disciplines to manage system interfaces and resolve inter-disciplinary issues.
  • Liaise with internal clients, project leads, and production regarding system status, design maturity, and field issues.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently to develop solutions to technical problems.
  • Above average analytical skills to gather, analyze, and synthesize data, confirming its accuracy and adequacy.
  • Strong technical writing skills including the ability to produce and present clear, detailed written technical specifications and procedures.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Strong communication skills including written, verbal, listening, and presentation.
  • PC proficiency and working knowledge of basic Microsoft Office software suite (Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint).
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Systems or Mechanical Engineering is required.
  • 0-2 years for Level I, 3-4 years for Level II post-secondary experience in Mechanical Systems or Mechanical Engineering disciplines, piping experience desired.
  • Experience working with a diverse integrated project team is considered an asset.
  • P.Eng. designation is not required, but candidate must be able to register as EIT at the start of the contract.
  • Working knowledge of Navisworks, and ACAD software, document control systems, and databases is desired.
Work Environment
This position is based on-site at a construction or engineering operations center. It offers a strong opportunity to gain experience in large-scale infrastructure projects with a focus on mechanical systems, particularly piping and HVAC.

This is a Contract position based out of North Vancouver, BC.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $45.00/hr.
