Wood has an opening for an intermediate/senior Mechanical Engineer for our office in Grande Prairie, Alberta.

The Wood Renewable Energy & Power business in Grande Prairie provides our team with challenging projects in Pulp & Paper, Seed Oils, Oil & Gas and Municipal projects. Reporting to the offices Engineering Lead, this position primarily provides mechanical engineering leadership on projects, but also has a strong influence in the overall development and execution in a project\xe2\x80\x99s full life cycle. This engineer provides expertise from conceptual studies, feasibility analysis, construction grade scope and estimates, detailed design, start-up, system optimization, and trouble-shooting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Providing input for the layout, design, specification and evaluation of mechanical equipment for industrial plants and related infrastructure.
  • Preparing sizing calculations for pumps, gravity flow systems and other industrial equipment.
  • Preparing project documents and reviewing those prepared by others for scope, presentation and technical accuracy.
  • Project Lead responsibilities requiring the ability to establish good working relationships and communication with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Focussed on meeting client objectives.
  • Effectively execute projects in study phases and project execution, as well as supporting projects in construction
  • Demonstrating effective organizational skills and handling multiple tasks independently, and as part of a team
  • Adequate management of project budget, schedule and quality, and effective implementation of change management procedures.
  • Establishing good working relationships and communication with project management, area leads, department managers, clients and other team members to coordinate and ensure the compatibility of design.
  • Supervising and mentoring junior staff, including assigning work and evaluating technical competency.
Skills / Qualifications
  • 10+ years of relevant industrial engineering experience at various stages of the project life cycle.
  • Mechanical Engineering Degree from a recognized university with P. Eng. Status for, or immediate eligibility for registration in Alberta.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high volume and deadline-driven environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Excellent interpersonal and decision-making skills.
  • Positive attitude and ability to effectively work in a team atmosphere is imperative.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Committed to continual improvement and achieving engineering excellence.
  • Demonstration of specific experience with aspects of Project Engineering and/or Project Management roles including ownership of overall project scope, schedule and budget management would be considered an asset.
  • Site experience.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work efficiently and effectively when managing multiple tasks.
  • Ability to work independently and in a multi-disciplinary team environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • The successful candidate shall have experience and posses the physical ability to work out of the office on heavy industrial sites independently and safely.
