Job Title: Mechanical Engineer

The tooling design engineer plays a critical role in the creation and implementation of installation tools, machining, dismantling, handling, and lifting tools. This position involves participating in the design of specialized tools related to major projects. The engineer will report to the Methods & Special Tooling Leader and contribute to the design and optimization of tooling to improve site installation efficiency.
Responsibilities

• Analyze technical information including specifications and scope of work.
• Design special tooling for site assembly, ensuring alignment with site planning and budget, and considering environmental, health, and safety aspects.
• Plan and coordinate the tooling design phase with the project team.
• Participate in design reviews to ensure consistency with site installation methods.
• Optimize tooling design to improve and reduce site installation time.
• Prepare and supervise the execution of technical drawings.
• Write reports and engineering documents, such as test procedures and maintenance manuals.
• Provide technical support to the supply chain and site teams.
• Validate costing of procedures and tooling during the tendering phase.
• Manage deliverables and budgets for projects.

Essential Skills

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering. Civil or Structural Engineering may be considered with relevant experience.
• 3-10 years of relevant experience in tooling and methods engineering within a heavy industrial environment, such as mining or heavy machinery.
• Experience in hands-on manufacturing roles.
• Experience with 3D modeling software, particularly NX.
• Proven ability to proactively gather information across groups.
• Intermediate knowledge of SmartSheet and Excel.
• Professional Engineering certification with a Canadian Association, or in progress for junior positions.
• Willingness to travel up to 10% within North America.

• Experience with hydroelectric projects.
• Electrical knowledge.
• Field engineering experience.
• Laser measurement skills.
• Knowledge of welding and machining.
• French language skills are considered an asset.

Work Environment
The position offers a hybrid work environment with three days per week on-site. This role provides the opportunity to work within a stable team in the hydropower sector, with exposure to large-scale projects involving the manufacturing and refurbishment of hydroelectric turbines.
