Overview

About the Role:

We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Designer to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for creating detailed drawings of complex systems, supporting the assembly and integration of systems, and collaborating closely with scientists and our machine shop to design customized solutions. In addition, they will play a key role working on continuous improvement initiatives to drive synergy and standardization across mechanical operations.

Key Responsibilities:

Create and update mechanical drawings using SolidWorks, ensuring accuracy and attention to detail. Work closely with scientists, engineers, and technicians to understand project requirements and design innovative solutions. Ensure designs are optimized for manufacturability and support the seamless integration and assembly of mechanical systems. Actively contribute to the continuous improvement of mechanical operations, identifying and implementing strategies to standardize processes and enhance collaboration across teams. Collaborate with machinists to ensure designs are practical and feasible for fabrication, with hands-on experience in the machine shop as a strong asset. Maintain accurate records of design changes, bill of materials (BOMs), and other technical documentation. Participate hands-on in the assembly and integration of systems, ensuring high-quality outcomes and attention to detail.
Qualifications & Skills:

Minimum 3 years of experience in mechanical design. Advanced knowledge of SolidWorks is required. Mechanical Technology Certificate, Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or a related field. Experience as a machinist, a strong asset. A focus on continuous improvement, with the ability to bring new ideas that enhance efficiency and quality. Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills. Ability to communicate effectively in English with international suppliers. Fluency in both English and French is highly advantageous for communication with local suppliers. Experience in a scientific or research-driven environment is a plus.
