Your New Role and Team



Sanctuary, a world leader in building AI-based control systems for humanoid robots, is looking to hire a skilled and motivated Mechanical Designer to join our Hardware team. Reporting to the Mechanical Design Team Lead, you'll gain a comprehensive understanding of the design and implementation of the robotics and mobility systems within our general-purpose robots.

As a Mechanical Designer at Sanctuary, you'll be a valued part of the team as you design novel and bleeding edge systems with 3D design tools, develop prototypes, perform simulations, manage fabrication and participate in assembly and construction. You will be pivotal in building our next generation robotic hardware, and maximizing current system performance.

This is a 6-month contract position with the potential for extension or conversion to full-time employment based on performance and business needs.

Our Success Criteria



Design and refine robotic parts and assemblies in Onshape, including actuators, robotic arms, and lift mechanisms (e.g., hands, arms, face, neck, and torso) Conceptualize novel actuator topologies and translate high-level functional requirements into low-level mechanical designs Use simulation and modeling to optimize innovative mechanisms with tight packaging constraints Implement design improvements, and 3D print, assemble, and test mechanical prototypes Collaborate with teammates to create documentation, assembly instructions, and engineering drawings Manage machining processes and design tools that improve production and maintenance workflows Support technicians with assembly during peak production periods

Your Experience

Qualifications:

A degree in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Physics, a related technical field, or equivalent work experience 1+ years of experience with 3D CAD tools (Onshape preferred) Background in specifying and analyzing gears, actuators, bearings, and similar components Experience with automated manufacturing systems and assembly tools Proficiency in prototyping, robotics, mechatronics, machining, and 3D printing R&D experience in robotics or mechanical systems Proven experience designing complex moving mechanical assemblies

Skills:

Highly skilled mechanical designer with a portfolio of complex and innovative projects Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, engineering drawings, tolerancing, and GD&T Excellent communication skills with the ability to adapt to different audiences Team-oriented and collaborative, with a solutions-focused approach to project challenges
