POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting to the Design - Team Lead, the Mechanical Designer will liaise with the Sales and Manufacturing teams along with our customers to create fully detailed models and manufacturing drawing packages of customer parts using SolidWorks and other software as applicable. This is to provide Manufacturing teams with the information they need to make the required parts and to provide drawings and CAD support to sales and estimating departments empowering their communication with our customers.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Perform mechanical design including concept development, detailed design, and creation of manufacturing and assembly drawings using SolidWorks
Design molds and jigs for rubber compression molding, urethane casting, machining, and other processes as needed
Reverse engineering of parts supplied and/or specified by customers
Achieve manufacturing goals by selecting the correct manufacturing procedures, such as machining, 3D printing, urethane casting, and others
Develop design documentation, technical specifications, and other project-related documentation
Create detailed BOM material take-offs for steel and aluminum molds once designed
Conduct materials property tests including ASTM D412, ASTM D429, and others
Participate in the development process of prototypes, including designing, reviewing, testing, and making rapid relevant changes to improve features and performance while meeting customer demands, schedule and budget
Generate assembly drawings and bills of materials
Timely delivery of submissions per project plans
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
BCIT Diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology (Design or Manufacturing Option) or equivalent
1-2 years of experience in mechanical design
SolidWorks proficiency, including CSWA/CSWP certification is an asset
ASTTBC registration an asset
Knowledge of engineering materials an asset
