Anchor Concrete Products Limited is expanding its Engineering Services Department and is recruiting a Mechanical Designer to assist Anchor in continually improving its molds, equipment, and processes. Purpose of Position: The MechanicalDesigner provides support for Anchor throughout the production facility. This will include producing mold and formwork designs, component procurement, facility infrastructure function and layout improvements, development of new products, all while interacting with customers and suppliers. Major Responsibilities and Tasks: 1. Create and edit equipment and formwork drawings by:
  • Ensuring complete and accurate component and assembly drawings
  • Working closely with the Welding and Fabricating Manager to ensure adherence to drawings and accurate transfer of information from design to fabrication
  • Designing formwork and mechanical systems to reduce assembly and disassembly time
  • Tracking formwork inventory, creating effective and efficient methods of racking, and storing and tracking formwork and mould components
2. Prepare cost estimates by:
  • Summarizing all related costs to a project, including materials, labour, etc.
  • Where relevant, identify means to reduce labour costs through efficient designs.
3. Design, Coordinate and Purchase parts and equipment by:
  • Producing efficient designs to recover material and reduce assembly and disassembly times.
  • Re-designing components and mechanical systems for efficiency .
  • Taking feedback from manufacturing, mould staff, fabricators, customers and technical staff and incorporating this into current and future mould builds to enhance efficiencies and effectiveness of tooling.
  • Coordinating with the Fabricating Team regarding any incoming deliveries.
  • Once purchased components arrive, assisting the Welding and Fabricating Manager to check all components delivered by fabricators before offloading into the yard, to ensure accuracy and adherence to design drawings.
4. Track and Implement Regular Repair and Maintenance of Existing Moulds by:
  • Working closely with Welding and Fabricating Manager and plant personnel to assess required repairs to molds and equipment that are out of order or requiring repair and maintenance.
  • Preparing formal drawings based on sketches, measurements and photos for issuing to the Welding and Fabricating Manager or an outside fabricator.
  • Tracking repair status and reporting progress and completion date to Sales and Production Coordinator, to ensure everyone is aware of repair status.
  • Designing replacement parts for molds.
  • Working closely with quality assurance personnel to ensure compliance with all required standards, customer expectations, manufacturing timelines, and manufacturing constraints.
  • Ensuring molds deliver products that meets quality standards and minimize risks associated with non-conforming products.
  • Routinely check in with plant personnel to ensure molds and equipment are in good condition.
Education and Experience \xc2\xb7 A post-secondary education in mechanical engineering is considered an asset, whether it be a Technician or Technologist diploma, or a degree. \xc2\xb7 Experience with AutoCAD, Inventor, or SolidWorks \xc2\xb7 Use of MS Office software \xc2\xb7 Welding/fabricating experience considered and asset \xc2\xb7 Interpreting and communicating technical details from drawings and blueprints \xc2\xb7 Must be able to operate independently as well as in a team environment If you are a detail-oriented professional dedicated to continuous improvement, we encourage you to apply today!
