The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join our Engineering & Projects Department in Port Colborne. The candidate will be responsible to provide design engineering services to for the Port Colborne Refinery. This is a permanent position.

The role requires the person to be capable of producing innovative engineering design solutions to operating and maintenance problems. In addition the person must have the capability of preparing project scopes of work and associated work packages for construction. The position involves in-field work in the Port Colborne Refinery. A valid driver\xe2\x80\x99s license is required.

Additionally, in this position you will:

  • Lead a team of design personnel to complete engineering designs.
  • Ensure adherence to scope, schedule, budget, codes and standards.
  • Responsible for integrity of designs produced under his/her technical direction and legally approve and seal designs and drawings as per the Professional Engineers Act.
  • Provide technical direction for complex engineering designs within his/her area of expertise and assist and guide other design personnel.
  • Conduct complex engineering studies.
  • Carry out field inspections, prepare field sketches, and relevant reports.
  • Participate in the review of construction and commissioning and start-up functions.
  • Apply sound engineering knowledge and exercises leadership, mentoring and training to other design personnel.
  • Coordinate and review work of engineering consultant\'s engineering designs, drawings and specifications on assigned projects.
  • Be familiar with latest codes, acts and regulations and keep abreast of technology and latest developments in his/her design field.
  • Review and develop engineering standards.
About You

Education:
  • The ideal candidate will possess an undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering
Experience:
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in a Mechanical Design Engineering related role is required.
Skills:
  • Experience in designing mechanical systems, including Piping Systems, HVAC, Material Handling Systems, Dust Control, and Machine Design.
  • Demonstrated experience working with applicable codes and regulations, including Regulation 854: Mines and Mining Plants, ASME B31.1 & ASME B31.3, ASME B&PV Section 8 & Section 9, CSA B51 & W59, MSS, SMACNA, TSSA, NFPA.
  • Strong background in conducting Process Hazard Reviews.
