Mechanical Design Engineer (HVAC Valves & Actuators)
Key Responsibilities
Collaborate with cross-functional teams (PMO, Marketing, Global Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Quality, etc.) to define design requirements and deliver new and evolution projects on time and within budget.
Complete engineering design and analysis activities using strong problem-solving skills, and present work through a stage-gated development process.
Apply sound engineering practices including 8D problem solving, design reviews, verification and validation, statistical design, tolerance analysis, engineering change procedures, and creation/release of product documentation.
Incorporate manufacturing needs into designs, including DFM/DFA considerations, supplier involvement, and component/assembly measurement approaches.
Create and validate CAD models and drawings to support communication with internal and external customers (e.g., prototyping houses, R&D test teams).
Validate FAIR / PPAP documentation using applied statistical methods and pilot run reviews.
Review and evaluate technical reports and analyses completed by internal and external engineering resources and quality teams.
Provide technical support to production (non-conformance assessment and deviation approval), quality, and marketing for field complaints, returns, and investigations.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
5-7 years of experience in design and support of mechanical valves and electro-mechanical actuator assemblies for HVAC applications.
Candidates with 10+ years of experience may be considered for expanded technical and leadership responsibilities.
Technical Skills
2-5 years of CAD experience with SolidWorks or ProE/Creo.
Experience with manufacturing processes including sand casting, die casting, forging, metal machining, rubber seal design, plastic injection molding, and prototyping.
Ability to perform design calculations to verify and validate designs to corporate and industry standards.
Assets / Preferred
Experience in gear design, electronic packaging, small motors and motor drivers, metal stamping, GD&T, and agency standards.
Exposure to Finite Element Analysis (FEA), Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), or other CAE tools.
