Job Description

We are seeking dedicated, passionate, and experienced Heavy Equipment Mechanics to diagnose mechanical problems and repair various types of winter maintenance equipment. The selected candidate(s) will report to one of the City of Toronto's Winter Maintenance Depots and will perform preventative and scheduled maintenance on equipment such as Single, Tandem, and Tri-axle trucks (including plows and salt/brine spreaders), sidewalk tractors (with plows and salt spreaders), skid steers, Front End Loaders, Backhoes (including attachments), snow blowers, and 4x4 pickup trucks.

Key Responsibilities

:

Perform preventative and scheduled maintenance on equipment under the guidance of a supervisor or fleet manager. Conduct maintenance and repairs in cold weather conditions. Inspect, diagnose, troubleshoot, repair, and overhaul equipment and tools, including electrical and electronic systems, diesel engines, salt spreaders, articulating plow blades, hydraulic systems, and drive train components. Adjust equipment and repair or replace defective parts, components, or systems. Coordinate specialized repairs with third-party service providers. Test equipment to ensure optimal performance. Perform welding on equipment as needed. Calibrate salt trucks and spreaders to the designated salt application rates. Complete maintenance reports, required documentation, and update work orders. Identify and order necessary parts, fluids, and materials for repairs. Provide feedback on current vehicles and equipment for potential improvements. Coordinate GPS repairs with third-party vendors.

Qualifications/Skills:



Ability to read and understand electrical and hydraulic diagrams and schematics related to the equipment. Comfortable working at heights, on roadways, and in open or exposed areas in all weather conditions. Strong verbal and written communication skills, both at technical and non-technical levels. Ability to perform work in a timely and efficient manner, consistent with industry standards. Familiarity with relevant legislation, including the Occupational Health and Safety Act, the Highway Traffic Act, National Safety Standards, MTO, and environmental regulations. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Fleet Management Systems. Willingness to work shifts, weekends, overtime, and on-call duty. Physically capable of performing all required duties. Experience in mechanical repairs, including welding and fabrication, is an asset. Ability to maintain TSSA CNG Qualification as per Ontario regulations is an asset. Experience repairing winter equipment is a strong asset. Red Seal certification is an asset. Valid 310T license required. 421A license is an asset. Heavy-duty certifications or apprenticeship hours are considered an asset.

Licenses Required:



G License in good standing. DZ License (Ontario commercial licenses with Z endorsement after September 1, 2023, will require a certificate of completion for the new module). AZ License.
We are hiring for Winter Depots with reporting locations in two different contract areas within the City of Toronto, divided by a North-South line. Candidates must be flexible and mobile to service both locations as required.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $45.00-$75.00 per hour
