Hart House is a centre for experiential education outside the classroom at the University of Toronto. Hart House operates from a historic facility on the St. George campus, as well as a 150-acre farm in Caledon, Ontario, offering a wide range of services through a social enterprise model that generates revenue to support its student-focused programming on all three University of Toronto campuses.

Your opportunity:

The department promotes recreation and wellness by providing a safe and inclusive environment and by delivering diverseprogramming. Recreation and Wellness at Hart House ensures students and members reflecting a diversity of racial and gender identities, sexual orientations, and a wide array of ability levels, can engage in a variety of fitness, recreational and wellnessactivities. Through outstanding facilities, programs and customer service, the department contributes to revenue generation and membership retention.

Under the general direction of the Director, Fitness, Wellness & Recreation, the Marketing, Sales and Service Associate is responsible for providing front-line and clerical support to the athletic facility at Hart House. This includes responding to general inquiries by phone, e-mail and in person, implementing sales and marketing plans to increase revenue-generating activities, and analyzing event data to identify trends and sales opportunities.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Implementing plans and process improvements for program and service activities
  • Keeping well-informed on theories related to equity, diversity and inclusion
  • Coordinating tasks for projects and other strategic initiatives with stakeholders
  • Determining logistical details and activities for events and/or programming
  • Coordinating program schedules with stakeholders
  • Exchanging information at formal department and/or program committee meetings
  • Liaising with stakeholders to coordinate space and resource requirements
  • Responding to enquiries within the defined scope of the role and redirecting as appropriate
Essential Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in the area of health, physical education, recreation or physical activity promotion, or acceptable combination of equivalent education and experience.
  • Minimum two years related experience with front-desk services in an athletic facility, including working with the public in a high volume, fast-paced environment, processing registrations and producing reports and related experience in fitness, health or recreation promotion and evaluation.
  • Some knowledge and understanding of project and event management work flows, and qualitative and quantitative evaluation methods.
  • Understanding of diversity and equity issues.
  • Excellent communication, customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Good decision-making and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to handle difficult situations with tact, diplomacy and discretion.
  • Ability to maintain up to date knowledge of changing events, programs, and procedures.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Publisher) and Adobe Acrobat is required.
  • Knowledge of Fusionor another similar software required.
  • Standard First Aid and CPR C certification required.

  • Education and experience with social media strategies, student leadership development and equity and inclusion focused work.
  • Strong knowledge of Hart House and the University of Toronto's programs and procedures.

Schedule: Full-Time Variable Monday to Friday 8:45am - 5:00pm, with occasional overtime on weekends.
Pay Scale Group & Hiring Zone:
USW Pay Band 09 -- $60,006 with an annual step progression to a maximum of $76,739. Pay scale and job class assignment is subject to determination pursuant to the Job Evaluation/Pay Equity Maintenance Protocol.
