As a hi-tech business, our technical team includes experts and engineers with experience in the acoustic, mechanical, electrical, software, and embedded software domains. We operate from locations at either end of Canada: the Halifax area on the Atlantic Coast and the Victoria area on the Pacific Coast.As a Coop in our Marketing department, you will work closely with our Content Creator and our Digital Marketer / Webmaster. The team\xe2\x80\x99s mandate is to grow AML\xe2\x80\x99s RFI (request for information) count from prospects and customers. You will design compelling visuals - graphic stills and videos - that align with our core brand and that engage the market.Your position has a leading metric - used to forecast progress - and a lagging metric - a record of your success. You are responsible for:

  • Leading metric: Content pieces approved
  • Lagging metric: Market views / clicks of the content you\xe2\x80\x99ve created
What activities will you need to undertake to keep your numbers on track?
  • Storyboard: Once you\xe2\x80\x99ve nailed the desired outcome of each piece, you\xe2\x80\x99ll need to break the project down into tighter sequences that maximize our chance of achieving outcome. You\xe2\x80\x99ll want to be able to demonstrate how each sequence reinforces the overall theme and creates momentum towards the goal;
  • Plan: You will need to plan backwards from weekly publishing outcomes. For example, one week you might build a short video to enhance AML\xe2\x80\x99s recruitment messaging. We will expect you to be able to convert the weekly goal into day-by-day targets of what you need to accomplish in order to stay on track;
  • Design and Refine: You will create the sequences, graphics and videos that you\xe2\x80\x99ve planned, refining and editing as necessary to create impact. You will maintain consistency with brand guidelines and you will pay strict attention to the small details that matter;
  • Publish & Track: Once completed, you will publish the content and keep track of the number of views or downloads of that content;
  • Other: Marketing at AML is a small team with much to do. Expect to be called upon to support other areas of the Marketing function. You might get pulled into web graphics, content writing, CRM work, or lead entry.
Your Competencies & Strengths:It goes without saying that you are goal oriented and hungry for achievement. People also describe you as curious, a self-starter, quick-to-learn, coachable, disciplined, and a team player! More specifically, your competencies include:
  • Software Tools: You have experience with the Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, etc.) and with video editing tools (Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, or similar). You have completed vector and raster image edits and you are able to create and edit simple animations;
  • Aesthetic Sense: You have an understanding of colour theory, typography and layout. You probably have some digital content in your portfolio - graphics or videos, personal or professional - that you can demonstrate;
  • Attention to Detail: You\xe2\x80\x99re a stickler for detail. You sweat the small stuff: alignment, spacing, resolution quality, grammar, etc. Details matter;
  • Basic Copywriting: You can create basic yet compelling text to incorporate into graphics and videos. You have a sense for when copywriting is on or off message and does or doesn\xe2\x80\x99t align to a brand.
  • Methodical & Calm: We work in an environment with tight deadlines. Focus and discipline are required. You have solid time management skills and the ability to balance competing priorities. You are calm under pressure. You have a keen spidey sense for when \xe2\x80\x9cperfect is the enemy of good\xe2\x80\x9d.
The ideal candidate will come from a Marketing career path, already has professional experience in an office environment, and will be able to commit to two consecutive co-op terms.
