McCarthy Tetrault employees benefit from a hybrid work environment.As a Marketing Communications Manager, you will be:

  • Responsible for managing the operations of the Marketing and Communications team. This individual will oversee the development of goals, strategies, and implementation plans to execute comprehensive marketing campaigns in collaboration with the broader Clients and Markets team.
  • Leading the internal and external branding and communications strategies for various projects relating to the firm culture, mission and strategic objectives.
  • Ensuring all communication programs and activities support and enhance the brand and strategic objectives of the firm.
  • Developing, managing and implementing, as appropriate, comprehensive communications plans for firm announcements to raise the profile of practice and industry groups.
  • Managing, and reviewing client and lawyer award submissions, including hands-on preparation of certain strategically important awards.
  • Leading the communications and creative team to produce marketing collateral in accordance with brand standards.
  • Leading the development of content and news feeds for the firm's social media channels supporting the firm's thought leadership, position in the market and priorities.
  • Managing external thought leadership opportunities, including determining appropriate opportunities, leading the development of and editing content as needed.
  • Providing hands-on support writing press releases, communications plan and client and firm award submissions.
  • Working closely with Manager, Clients and Markets (Communications) in Quebec to identify and coordinate media pitching opportunities with English and French media.
  • Developing and supporting Senior Leadership Team (SLT) communications including writing communications or briefing writers on key announcements, speeches, major programs and initiatives in collaboration with the Senior Director, Clients and Markets.
  • Reviewing project team internal communications and consulting on internal communications strategy on major firm projects.
  • Working with the Design Lead to help assess priorities, resources and design vendor relationships.
People Leadership
  • In collaboration with Clients and Markets management and Chief Client and Innovation Officer, promoting and maintaining positive employee relations within the national Marketing and Communications team.
  • Managing all aspects of recruitment, selection, coaching, performance management, compensation and development for all direct reports, including three writers, a design expert, an awards submission expert and a project specialist.
  • Ensuring ongoing development of team members' skills to ensure functional and firm objectives are met.
As our ideal candidate, you will have:
  • University degree in Journalism, Marketing, Communications, Business, and/or Marketing/Public Relations diploma or equivalent.
  • Seven to ten years of direct work experience in marketing and communications. Agency and professional services marketing experience preferred.
  • Experience managing direct reports and motivating/engaging teams
  • Experience providing services to, working with, and influencing senior internal clients (professionals and leadership).
  • Hands-on approach that includes both a high level grasp of the firm's goals and business with the ability to get things done.
  • Willingness to act as a player-coach who rolls up their sleeves and works directly on actual strategic written assets as well as leads, coaches and develops others.
  • Solid knowledge of marketing and communications and public relations principles combined with superior project management and process improvement skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills. Bilingual (French/English) strongly desired.
  • Desire to find creative solutions to barriers and turn challenges into opportunities.
  • Ability to synthesize complex and sensitive material in order to craft persuasive recommendations and creative copy in a high intensity, deadline-driven environment with frequently shifting priorities while maintaining a professional attitude.
  • Strong people management skills, including proactive delivery of feedback and recognition on a regular basis.
