The Marketing and Communications Associate is a critical role within Lakehead University's Communications + Marketing team, responsible for promoting brand awareness and engagement to support Lakehead University's initiatives. Reporting into the Director of Marketing, Brand and Digital Strategy, the role develops and executes marketing projects that enhance visibility and engagement across multiple audiences in alignment with the university's strategic plan and priorities.


Responsibilities

Strategic Planning and Project Management



Develop and execute marketing and communication plans, including social media, print, and digital strategies. Plan, prioritize, and manage multiple marketing projects and campaigns. Report on marketing initiatives, analyzing social media, advertising, and website performance. Build and maintain collaborative relationships with internal and external partners. Research, evaluate, and recommend vendors and tools to enhance marketing efforts. Manage project budgets, timelines, and deliverables.

Graphic Design, Content Creation, Social Media, and Website



Create visually compelling marketing materials such as flyers, posters, digital ads, and web graphics. Support updates to the university website with engaging news, imagery, and content. Ensure all print and digital materials meet AODA accessibility standards. Advise internal units on design and content that align with Lakehead's visual identity guidelines. Oversee Communications + Marketing's social media accounts, managing content creation, engagement, and performance reporting. Use tools like Google Analytics, Hootsuite, and Mailchimp to measure and improve engagement. Align social media and digital activities with institutional goals to increase brand visibility.

Brand Compliance and Quality Assurance



Ensure adherence to Lakehead University's brand guidelines, including typography, imagery, and tone. Provide direction to university departments to maintain brand consistency. Ensure all communications support the university's mission, vision, and strategic objectives.

Administration



Organize and catalog marketing materials, creative assets, and photo archives. Manage relationships with external vendors, such as designers, videographers, and photographers. Support the department's strategic goals through planning, coordination, and administrative assistance.

Qualifications


------------------


Post-secondary education in Marketing, Communications, Graphic Design, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience, preferably in the post- secondary or non-profit sector. Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign). Experience with CMS platforms (WordPress, Drupal), HTML/CSS, and Google Analytics. Skilled with social media management tools (Hootsuite, Sprout Social) and analytics platforms. Knowledge of video editing tools (Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro) and email marketing platforms (Mailchimp, Constant Contact). Strong understanding of traditional and digital marketing principles. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including content development for web and social platforms. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and competing deadlines. High attention to detail, creativity, and strong problem-solving skills. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
