Since 1975 The Mustard Seed Street Church has been essential in fighting hunger and restoring faith to our community in Greater Victoria. Our operations are nearly 100 percent community funded and our services include a Food Bank, a Food Rescue Program that serves over 70 agencies in the CRD and Hospitality and Meal programs. We also offer Church Services for those seeking a place to belong and grow spiritually. Through these core programs we assist over 65,000 people each month with the help of more than 50 daily volunteers and many generous financial supporters!

Market Support Worker







The position of Market Support Worker supports the Mustard Seed Street Church Market (Food Bank) primarily through focusing on shipping/receiving from our warehouse as well as donations from the general public. This includes unloading pallets, organizing and rotating stock, cleaning, and generally maintaining the day-to-day operations of a very busy food bank working with other staff to deliver the best service and quality food to meet the needs of low-income individuals and families.




Duties & Responsibilities






Oversee and assist with receiving food and other items from the Viewfield warehouse as well as public donations Load, unload and wrap pallets Attentive to inventory and assist with placing orders for stock from Viewfield Ensure Best Before standards established by Food Banks Canada are followed, ensure proper rotation of food products, oversee break down of products as appropriate Assist with set up, service and break down of Market, keep shelves stocked Store food in bins as appropriate Provide support as needed to serve people in the Market receiving food (work in the U) Prepare hampers for appointments as needed Prepare compost and recycle for pick up Clean and organize the walk-in cooler, the walk-in freezer, small freezer, dairy cases, floors & shelves Provide direction and support to volunteers Responsible for operations of guest services when needed Work with fellow staff to provide best possible service and to address issues arising re community members Maintain appropriate WorkSafe protocols for safety of all All other duties as required



Qualifications






Experienced with warehouse and/or supermarket duties relating to receiving and handling food and other items. Competency with Microsoft and Excel Good interpersonal skills, able to relate well with diverse members of our community, volunteers and staff Food Safe level 1 or be willing to get certification First Aid or be willing to get certification Valid Drivers License would be an asset Able to safely lift and move up to 40 lbs. Willing to sign and adhere to the staff code of conduct

Terms of Employment






Must be willing to sign the staff code of conduct This position reports to: Manager of the Foodbank/Guest Services Terms: Paid Salary Biweekly Hours: 75 hours bi-weekly (8am-4pm with a hour unpaid break Monday - Friday except holidays plus possible additional hours if required due to Christmas scheduling, sickness or emergency. Hours may shift depending on MSSC needs Must read and agree to following The Mustard Seed policies which are a living, changing document The Mustard Seed follows BC Employment Standards Law for Terminations Must provide an acceptable criminal record check, including the level of clearance required to work with vulnerable people * Must provide completed Medical Assessment form from your Medical Practitioner
