What Is the Opportunity? Accountable for developing data analytics that supports growth and profitability in a region, or part of a region. These positions support the formulation and implementation of provincial, regional and countrywide strategies through analysis and focus on competitor behaviors, marketplace dynamics, pricing segmentation, and line and segment level analysis. These roles requires detailed analysis of product, pricing, and growth at a provincial, regional and countrywide level. This role will support a specific underwriting line of business.

What Will You Do?

  • Primary Accountabilities:Develop and implement regular pricing, filing and product strategies through:Monitoring competitor and industry trends - analyzing and articulating key areas of competitive price differences (territory, class plan) between Travelers and competitors.Analyzing profitability position, factoring in: production trends, loss experience, competitive position, underwriting/marketing programs, claim information, etc.Leveraging actuarial concepts combined with market knowledge to advise on rate filings and packages for the Provincial Regulator.Negotiating rate changes with key stakeholders and formulating requirements packages to document the rate changes so IT can build and test accordingly.Working closely with the regional sales team, building market intelligence, and educating on product and rate changes. Develop post-monitoring reports to track results of strategies through:Identifying out-of-pattern trends and communicating to management in a timely manner.Proactively identifying trends and root cause - demonstrating a strong understanding for how trends impact financial results.Presenting monthly financial results to sales teams, and senior management as required. Secondary Accountabilities:Developing and presenting business cases for future investments in product and pricing.Supporting annual planning/forecasting.Brainstorming, researching, testing and implementing new product opportunities.Recommending improvements to pricing process, procedures and workflow.

What Will Our Ideal Candidate Have?
  • Bachelors degree in business management, mathematics, management information, finance, actuarial science, economics or other related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of business experience, insurance experience is preferred
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Access.
  • General knowledge of insurance products.
  • Knowledge of Pricing and Actuarial techniques.
  • Technical Knowledge/Critical Thinking:
  • Able to extract and analyze competitive data.
  • Team Orientation:
  • Ability to interact with the field sales team, work with DOI and brokers to gather competitive intelligence.
  • Planning and Project Management:
  • Strong organization and time management skills.
  • Communication Skills:
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge:
  • Understands basic actuarial concepts such as loss development and trending.
  • Understanding of basic ratemaking and its application, such as profitability, risk loads, etc.
  • Solid understanding of techniques and models used to forecast insurance financials.
  • Understands and is able to access available sources of Travelers and Industry trend information.
  • Solid understanding of and good working relationship with claim, business centers, call centers, and information technology. Understands the workflow and terminology of these areas and their impact on the business.
  • Solid knowledge of Excel, Access, and Word.
What is a Must Have?
  • Bachelors degree.
  • Minimum of 3 years of business experience, insurance experience is preferred
  • General Knowledge of Microsoft office products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
