Maritime Historian
to join our elite and rapidly growing organization. Reporting directly to the

, this role is pivotal in advancing CAC's mission and strategic vision across expedition operations, scientific research, and high-profile media initiatives.
The Maritime Historian will lead comprehensive research on shipwrecks and maritime heritage, produce authoritative reports, and provide expert insight to CAC leadership, investors, our documentary production team, and regulatory agencies. This position ensures all historical research and data management adhere to CAC's mission, values, operational standards, and the creative direction of our flagship film documentary: Deep Blue Rising - A New Alliance for Earth's Last Frontiers.

Key Responsibilities
Conduct extensive historical research and produce in-depth reports on shipwrecks, including evaluations related to government programs and CAC strategic initiatives.
Identify, assess, and document historic shipwrecks--particularly those within Canadian and polar waters, including Newfoundland & Labrador, the Northwest Passage, the North Atlantic, Baffin Islands, Arctic regions, the Mid-Atlantic, and Antarctica.
Build and maintain strong relationships with strategic partners, global maritime museums, regulators, academic institutions, and financial investors.
Collaborate with CAC's specialists to manage collections of maritime artwork, cultural artifacts, recovered treasures, and high-value shipwreck cargo portfolios.
Provide authoritative expertise on pivotal maritime events and themes, including major naval battles of WWI and WWII, maritime trade routes, pirate history, and legendary voyages of exploration.
Maintain advanced knowledge of early European voyages to North America, including the expeditions of John Cabot, Viking exploration, and foundational maritime history.
Work directly with CAC's documentary film crew throughout the five-year production of
Deep Blue Rising
.
Collaborate with top-tier media and entertainment partners--including major global streamers--on documentary and educational content.
Uphold CAC corporate policies, confidentiality standards, and regulatory compliance frameworks.
Support expedition planning, mapping, and analytical mission design to strengthen operational outcomes.
Minimum Qualifications & Experience
Ph.D. in
Maritime History
,
Archaeology
,
Shipwreck Recovery
, or a closely related discipline.
15+ years
of international experience with leading maritime museums and research institutions across Canada, Greenland, Iceland, Norway, Scotland, Ireland, the United Kingdom, Europe, and Antarctic regions.
10+ years
of senior leadership experience in maritime exploration, research vessel operations, deep-sea submersible programs, economic development, and treasure recovery initiatives.
Proven expertise in artifact identification, shipwreck cargo evaluation, conservation, and maritime cultural heritage.
Demonstrated experience working with venture capital groups, global family offices, and Fortune 500 partners.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex historical analysis into engaging, accessible narratives.
Strong project management capabilities, with a track record of delivering high-profile work within tight timelines.
Preferred Skills & Expertise
Direct field experience in deep-sea exploration, submersible operations, offshore polar expeditions, ocean research, or adventure tourism.
Strong understanding of climate change impacts on underwater archaeological sites.
Expertise in designing and executing archaeological projects, including Phase I, II, and III underwater excavation missions.
Advanced knowledge of historical navigation routes, storm-driven shipwreck patterns, and naval warfare.
Award-Winning storytelling ability
