Manufacturing Process Engineer




Position Description The Manufacturing Process Engineer is responsible for performing the development or improvement of production equipment, processes and methods. The typical cycle includes conceptualizing and developing process prototypes as well as testing and perfecting process designs. In the short term, the incumbent will be responsible for bringing Lean Six Sigma concepts into the different Production Lines, with a particular emphasis on 5s and Factory Organization. For the long term, the focus will be on bringing Industry 4.0 concepts into the manufacturing and supply chain management side of the company. Major Areas of Responsibility Major areas of responsibility include,but are not limited to:

  • Establish a 5S Organization Standard for the Factory.
  • Study time, methods, and speed involved in production to establish standard workflow rate and improve efficiency. This will include working in each different Production Line to understand the Standard Work Instructions, measuring Cycle Times for each Steps, and confirming Takt Times of each Line.
  • Coordinate the purchase of special equipment, materials, or parts and ensure they meet specifications and quality standards.
  • Create product specifications and detailed assembly instructions. This will primarily be done using standard Microsoft Office programs (Word, PowerPoint), while also making using of CAD software (SolidWorks, BricsCAD).
  • Aid and report on work assignments, machine capacity, production schedules, and anticipated delays.
  • Recommend technology or computer aids, product design changes and workspace layout modification to existing production standards to achieve optimum quality and efficiency.
  • Develop a successful workflow, adapt to changing conditions, and develop new equipment, procedures, and policies to increase efficiency in all operations.
  • Autonomous, having the ability to work in a fast-paced environment with minimal direction using a hands-on approach; providing support as needed.
  • Prepares reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data; making recommendations and following through for continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Observes operations to ensure that employees and equipment comply with safety regulations, identifies cost-saving opportunities, troubleshoots machinery, and report all deficiencies.
  • Contribute to team effort by collaborating with members of engineering, quality and production as well as other departments.
  • Engage with quality and production regarding the non-conforming materials (NCM\xe2\x80\x99s) process, seeking resolution to issues that meet both the Company and customer\xe2\x80\x99s expectations.
  • Embrace a fast-paced environment that requires a sense of urgency in relation to the needs of both internal and external customers.
  • Manage transition from old products being discontinued to new products being introduced.
  • Coordinate between other factories of the Global Parent Company, namely those located in US, China, and Europe.
  • Externally facing duties including: liaison with vendors; working with local installer base, etc.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as determined by the Company.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities This position requires the following essential knowledge, skills and abilities in order to satisfactorily fulfil the Manufacturing Process Engineer role:
  • Minimum, bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree and 3+ years of experience in a similar engineering position
  • Knowledge of Lean Six Sigma in any capacity is considered an asset
  • Ability to read, understand, and create machining & assembly drawings using SolidWorks and AutoCAD (BricsCAD)
  • Technical understanding with a hands-on approach (a lot of work will be out on the production floor gaining data and insights, rather than behind a computer)
  • Use analytical thinking to introduce new innovations to production processes
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and manage time efficiently
  • Ability to objectively review, understand and organize data. Data analysis via Microsoft Excel or another programming language is considered an asset.

  • Process Improvement and Development using quality tools (5-why\xe2\x80\x99s, corrective action, 8-D, etc.)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with internal and external customers; problem resolution skills; understand competitive market; ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a high-volume environment.
  • Detailed oriented, well-organized; self-starter; ability to work under minimal supervision.
  • Dependable and self-motivated

Physical Demands While performing the responsibilities of the job, the employee is required to talk and hear. The employee is often required to sit and use their hands and fingers, to handle or feel, to lift and assemble boxes and components. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and vehicles. The noise level in the work environment is primarily moderate to loud.
