We're looking for an energetic and experienced Plant Supervisor with experience in manufacturing to join us in our fast-paced, team oriented work environment.
Reporting directly to the Operations/Plant Manager, the Plant Supervisor oversees daily operations of the manufacturing facility, ensuring efficient production, high-quality output, safety compliance, and team leadership. This position is responsible for supervising production staff, coordinating maintenance, ensuring adherence to standard operating procedures (SOPs), and meeting productivity and quality Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). This role requires a balance of strategic planning and hands-on execution to drive productivity and achieve operational goals. The Plant Supervisor must be adept at troubleshooting issues, optimizing processes, and leading the shop teams towards continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities:
Production Oversight
Supervise and coordinate day-to-day plant operations to meet production targets.
Monitor equipment, materials, and personnel to ensure efficient workflow.
Ensure all production orders are completed on time and within specifications.
Staff Supervision
Lead, train and allocate, production staff according to production schedule and during down times.
Monitor attendance, performance, and workplace behavior.
Foster a team-oriented, high-performance culture focused on accountability.
Safety and Compliance
Enforce health and safety regulations in accordance with provincial and company standards.
Ensure all staff adhere to PPE and lockout/tagout procedures.
Lead safety meetings, Toolbox Talks and assist with incident investigations.
Quality Assurance
Monitor production processes to ensure product quality and compliance with specifications.
Implement corrective actions when non-conformities are identified.
Participate in root cause analysis and continuous improvement activities.
Inventory and Materials Management
Coordinate with inventory personnel to ensure material availability.
Ensure all materials are available at the production lines to minimize downtime.
Track raw material usage and minimize waste.
Documentation and Reporting
Complete shift reports, production logs, and downtime records accurately.
Participate in cross-functional meetings to report performance and improvements.
Continuous Improvement
Identify inefficiencies and propose process enhancements.
Implement LEAN manufacturing practices and promote a culture of continuous improvement (CI).
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):
Production Efficiency:
% of production schedule completed on time.
Downtime:
Total unscheduled downtime per shift/week/month.
Quality Yield:
Percentage of first-pass quality output.
Safety Metrics:
Number of safety incidents, near misses, and compliance audit results.
Attendance & Turnover:
Staff absenteeism and turnover rates.
Inventory Accuracy:
Variance between actual and recorded inventory levels.
Working Conditions:
Full-time position; must be available to work rotating shifts and occasional weekends.
Standing, walking, and physical activity required in a plant environment.
Use of PPE required (e.g., safety boots, hearing protection, etc.).
Opportunities for Advancement:
Eligibility for advancement to roles such as Sr. Plant Supervisor, Production Manager, or Continuous Improvement Lead, based on performance, leadership capability, and business needs.
Qualifications & Skills
Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Operations Management, or related field
Previous supervisory or management experience within operations in manufacturing
Strong understanding of operational best practices and methodologies
Knowledge of LEAN manufacturing, 5S, and root cause analysis.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Proven ability to lead and motivate a team
Proficiency in utilizing ERP systems and operational software
Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities
Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively
Familiarity with industry-specific regulations and compliance requirements
Minimum of 3-5 years experience in operations or a related field
Demonstrated leadership abilities and experience managing a team
Excellent organizational and time management skills
Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet tight deadlines
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
Good understanding of safety practices and compliance standards
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams
