The Manufacturing Manager is responsible for planning, directing, and optimizing all manufacturing operations for locomotive parts and assemblies. This role ensures safe, efficient, and compliant production while meeting quality, delivery, and cost objectives. The Manufacturing Manager leads production teams, drives continuous improvement initiatives, and ensures adherence to railway industry standards, customer specifications, and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Manufacturing Operations
Plan, organize, and manage day-to-day manufacturing activities, including machining, fabrication, assembly, testing, and finishing of locomotive components.
Quality & Compliance
Ensure compliance with applicable rail industry standards (e.g., AAR, IRIS, customer specifications, and regulatory requirements).
Support quality audits, customer inspections, and corrective/preventive action processes.
Ensure proper documentation, traceability, and process control for safety-critical locomotive components.
Budget & Cost Control
Develop and manage manufacturing budgets, including labor, overtime, consumables, and capital expenditures.
Identify cost-reduction opportunities without compromising quality or safety.
Ensure production schedules are met while maintaining high standards of quality, safety, and efficiency.
Coordinate with Engineering, Quality, Supply Chain, and Maintenance to ensure smooth production flow.
Monitor capacity utilization, labor efficiency, scrap, and rework, and implement corrective actions as required.
Continuous Improvement
Drive Lean Manufacturing, and process optimization initiatives to improve productivity, reduce waste, and lower manufacturing costs.
Identify bottlenecks and implement process improvements, tooling enhancements, and layout optimization.
Support new product introductions (NPI) and process validations.
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
Extensive knowledge of locomotive parts and assemblies, rebuilt and overhaul procedures and maintenance instructions.
5 years of progressive manufacturing experience, in railway locomotive shops or railway maintenance/overhaul shops.
5 years in a leadership or management role within a railway manufacturing environment.
Strong knowledge of machining, fabrication, welding, and mechanical assembly processes.
Experience with rail or safety-critical components is a strong asset.
Certificate of ARR / IRIS or equal certificates in railway industries is a huge asset
