Manufacturing Engineering Support Specialist (npi Coordinator)

Ottawa, ON, Canada

Job Description

Join Us as Manufacturing Engineering Support Specialist (NPI Coordinator)!
Are you driven, hands-on, and eager to make a meaningful impact in a fast-paced, innovation-led environment? ORBCOMM is seeking a Manufacturing Engineering Support Specialist (NPI Coordinator) to join our Hardware Design team. This full-time, on-site role supports R&D activities and New Product Introduction (NPI) for our prototyping and manufacturing operations, reporting to the Director of NPI and PCB Design.
Why You'll Love Working Here:
As a key member of the team driving next-generation embedded products in the IoT space. In this role, you'll coordinate across firmware, hardware and manufacturing engineering and help optimize workflows, automation, and prototyping processes. Your contributions will help bring new devices to market faster and more efficiently--while you grow professionally in a collaborative, technology-centric environment that values innovation and practical improvements.
With a hybrid working schedule, you can enjoy the best of both worlds - engaging in-person collaboration at our Ottawa office, while also benefiting from the autonomy and comfort of remote work.
What You'll Do:

  • Coordinate NPI manufacturing and prototyping planning, including quick turn assembly (QTA) with PCB fabricators and contract manufacturing partners.
  • Serve as the main point of contact with local contract manufacturers and collaborate closely with the supply chain sourcing team.
  • Compile and manage documentation packages required for quoting, resource allocation and NPI program status tracking.
  • Report program status to the Project Management Office, plan resources based on shifting project priorities, and provide lessons learnt from build activities.
  • Continuously seek opportunities to streamline and automate coordination and reporting workflows--exploring low-effort AI tools and automation solutions (e.g., robotic dispensing).
  • Oversee process improvement efforts to enhance efficiency and accuracy in the manufacturing engineering support domain.
Who You Are:
You're a strategic thinker with a knack for operational excellence, ready to tackle multiple priorities with agility and grace. If you have:
  • Degree or diploma in technical discipline such as Electrical, Mechanical or Manufacturing Technology (or equivalent experience).
  • 2+ years of experience supporting electronic product development, with familiarity in electromechanical assembly and SMT processes.
  • Experience with change management and item creation in PLM systems.
  • Strong analytical, organizational and problem-solving skills, with excellent attention to detail and time management.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; collaborative mindset.
  • Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, etc.).
  • Experience improving Excel-based workflows or reporting processes and identifying practical automation opportunities is a plus.
  • Electromechanical hands-on experience (e.g., cable assembly, soldering, SMT re-work) or CAD experience will be considered an asset.
  • IPC training and/or certification are also an advantage.
Then we want to meet you!
