Role Description
The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and optimizing production lines to support MoveMobility's growing product portfolio. This role will lead the development and continuous improvement of manufacturing processes, ensuring safety, quality, efficiency, scalability, and cost-effectiveness, while adhering to CSA, CMVSS, and other provincial standards and strategic alignment with new product launches.
As the organization grows, MoveMobility will be building out its Quality Assurance function. The Manufacturing Engineer will play an important role in establishing the foundational production processes and documentation that will support a formal QA program in the future. These early contributions will help ensure consistent, repeatable, and quality-ready manufacturing practices.
Working closely with Innovation, Production, Supply Chain, and external vendors, the Manufacturing Engineer will drive best-practice manufacturing methodologies and introduce new technologies to elevate overall production capabilities.
Duties
Production Line Development & Optimization
Design and implement new production lines, stations, workflows, and tooling to support new and existing product programs.
Conduct time studies, capacity analysis, and workflow modeling to improve throughput and reduce bottlenecks.
Lead the introduction of lean manufacturing principles (5S, value stream mapping, Kaizen, standardized work, waste elimination).
Develop detailed work instructions, process documentation, and production build standards.
Evaluate and introduce automation, jigs, fixtures, and equipment to enhance productivity and consistency.
Oversee layout changes, equipment installation, and process validations.
Process Foundations & Continuous Improvement
Develop production processes and documentation that create a strong foundation for future Quality Assurance initiatives.
Ergonomic design, safety risk assessments, and mitigation strategies.
Build clear, consistent work instructions, inspection points, and process controls that enable repeatable outcomes.
Monitors and makes recommendations for build and design consistency.
Identify opportunities for process improvement using structured methodologies (Root Cause Analysis, PFMEA, 5 Why's, Fishbone).
Six Sigma methodologies and cost-reduction assessments
Collaborate with Quality, Engineering, and Production teams to enhance product and process consistency.
Establish and monitor KPIs such as cycle time, takt time, scrap rate, and equipment uptime.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Work with Engineering on design-for-manufacturability (DFM) and design-for-assembly (DFA) initiatives.
Support Production Supervisors and team leads with day-to-day technical issues and process changes.
Partner with Supply Chain to enhance material flow, inventory management, and shop-floor logistics.
Collaborate with Health & Safety to ensure safe, ergonomic processes and compliance with regulatory standards.
Project & Change Management
Lead manufacturing-related projects from concept to completion, including cost estimation, scheduling, and reporting.
Support engineering change implementation, ensuring smooth transitions with minimal production disruption.
Prepare capital equipment recommendations and business cases based on ROI analyses.
Technical Skills & Knowledge
Proven experience designing and implementing production lines, workstations, and manufacturing processes.
Experience developing production processes that enable consistent quality and support future QA structures.
Knowledge of ERP systems
Strong background in lean manufacturing, process engineering, and continuous improvement methodologies.
Experience with CAD (SolidWorks preferred), process simulation tools, and layout design.
Proficiency with manufacturing documentation: process flows, PFMEA, control plans, and work instructions.
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities supported by structured methodologies.
Knowledge of equipment selection, tooling design, ergonomics, and safety requirements.
Soft Skills & Technology
Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
Ability to lead projects and influence stakeholders without direct authority.
Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.
Proficient with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and ERP/MRP systems.
Comfortable working in a fast-paced, growing manufacturing environment.
Education
Minimum High School Diploma (required).
Proficient with CAD software (Solidworks preferred)
Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field (preferred).
Lean Six Sigma certification considered an asset.
