We are seeking a driven and technically skilled Manufacturing Engineer to join our Production Support Engineering Team within the New Product Introduction and Improvement (NPI&I) department. This role will serve as the engineering owner of one or more production lines, with a key focus on Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and continuous process improvement in a defense manufacturing environment.
The ideal candidate brings a strong foundation in Industrial Engineering with a mechanical focus, practical experience with GD&T, and a hands-on approach to problem solving. This position plays a central role in bridging design and production--ensuring manufacturability, repeatability, and compliance with both quality and defense standards.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Serve as the manufacturing engineering lead for assigned production line(s), ensuring stable, efficient, and high-quality operations.
Conduct Design for Manufacturing (DFM) reviews and collaborate with design engineering to influence product design for optimal manufacturability.
Interpret and apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) to ensure accurate manufacturing intent and alignment with production capabilities.
Lead or contribute to Material Review Board (MRB) investigations; assess root cause of non-conformances, especially those tied to DFM, and execute design changes when appropriate.
Develop, validate, and maintain work instructions, process flows, assembly documentation, and tooling requirements.
Identify and implement process improvements, automation opportunities, and lean initiatives to improve throughput, yield, and ergonomics.
Support New Product Introduction (NPI) activities, including prototype builds, pilot runs, and design transitions into full-rate production.
Collaborate closely with Test Engineers, Manufacturing Engineering Technicians, and the Production Process Improvement Specialist to resolve production issues quickly and efficiently.
Specify, design, or procure production tooling, fixtures, and test aids.
Ensure processes and documentation are compliant with Canadian defence standards and quality systems (e.g., ISO 9001, etc).
Provide training and support to production staff on new equipment, processes, and design changes.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering (with a mechanical focus) or Mechanical Engineering with relevant industrial/manufacturing experience.
4 or more years of experience in a manufacturing engineering role, ideally in the defence, aerospace, or high-reliability sectors.
Demonstrated experience with GD&T, interpretation of technical drawings, and mechanical/electro-mechanical assemblies.
Strong working knowledge of Design for Manufacturing (DFM) principles.
Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement methodologies.
Proficient in 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks) and able to review or redline designs.
Experience working with ERP/MES systems and manufacturing data analysis tools.
Excellent problem-solving, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
Experience supporting New Product Introduction (NPI) programs and transitioning designs from development to production.
* Experience in tooling and fixture design for electro-mechanical production lines.
